Palindrome

Switch Blayde ๐Ÿšซ

a word, phrase, or sequence that reads the same backward as forward, e.g., "madam" or "nurses run."

I stumbled across it searching on "to" and "toward" and Google gave me a lot about "backward." This is the best palindrome I found:

Never odd or even.

Read it backwards. (I'll put a _ where the word ends to help you.)

Neve_r o_dd o_r even.

Pretty cool, huh?

Ambigrams are also fascinating. Dan Brown had quite a few (and the pictures of them) in one of his novels. 'Angels and Demons' I think it was.

Apparently, you can even do it mathematically.

61 โ€“ (8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 8) = (8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 8) โ€“ 19

Ahh, not exactly the same.
You can't read it simply backwards, you have to rotate it by 180 degrees! And to work correctly the 1 has to be written as a simple vertical stroke (as some people do in handwriting).

you have to rotate it

No. Every definition of palindrome I found says 'read backward', not rotate.

@Pixy

Reading '61' backwards is '16', not '19'.

I believe that was the point he was making. At least that's how I read his comment.

Right โ€” rotating is an ambigram, like Puxy mentioned.

like Puxy mentioned.

Pixy made 2 posts. In the first, he addressed ambigrams. His second post was linked to SB's post, which was about palidromes.

Pixy's post was

Apparently, you can even do it mathematically.

I clicked his link to find out what he meant by

"do it mathematically."

Based on his link, his post appeared to be about palidromes. His intent would have been clearer if he had linked to his post about ambigrams.

Ambigrams can either be rotated or flipped or mirrored.
They may be palindromes (in its wider definition as same sense after the action) or not.
Looking into ambigrams, I found an interesting fact (political cause?):
The quite long English Wikipedia entry is missing the Hillary Clinton / Donald Trump ambigram example from the far shorter German entry.

Every line of (and every sign in the video) Weird Al Yankovic's "Bob" (a style parody of Bob Dylan) is a palindrome.

Exactly. Even the title is.

And in 1992 They Might Be Giants released a song "I Palindrome I", which contains not only palindromes but entire sentences that are read the same forwards and backwards.

"'Son I am able,' she said, 'Though you scare me.' 'Watch,' said I. 'Beloved,' I said, 'Watch me scare you though.' Said she, 'Able am I, son.'"

Hmm, they should come up with a new term for palindrome that is itself a palindrome. :)
