Word vs Shakespeare

Switch Blayde ๐Ÿšซ

In my WIP, one of my characters is an actor who quotes Shakespeare when talking to the heroine. Part of the quote I just used is: "Thou art more lovely and more temperate."

Word flagged the "more lovely." It wants me to change it to "lovelier."

Good thing Shakespeare didn't use Word.

More lovely is only comparative. Most lovely would be superlative, and mean that she is superior to more than just one other. Alternatively, loveliest would also convey her being considerably more attractive than just a comparison to just one other person.

And why would you want to shake a spear?

Because there were no lemons handy.

To give the grinning dicks something to comment on of course.

I've found that I can't trust Word's suggestions. They frequently don't fit the meaning that I intend.

@REP

I've found that I can't trust Word's suggestions. They frequently don't fit the meaning that I intend.

This one caught my attention because, I guess, I use more-something often enough to remember that Word suggests I make that kind of change quite frequently. But this time it wasn't me Word was correcting so I thought I'd share.

I actually am pleased with Word's suggestions. I don't blindly follow them, but they get me thinking.

Or maybe it's because I just finished Chapter 69 on my WIP and I'm a little dizzy writing this novel. I think I only have 2 more chapters (but I told myself that 2 chapters ago LOL).

Shakespeare in his day had to use quill pen and ink.
Also he had to think.
In some cases he had to think of new words.
