It is my perception that aroslav is writing stories faster than I can read them. I admit I am slow at reading stories - I get distracted.
I have a WIP that I've been working on for years and may have years more to go before I'll be ready to turn it loose on SOL. That's one story. I believe that since I started the WIP, aroslav has started and produced everything of his (hers?) on SOL, plus stories using other names.
Is any other author producing more?

Dicrostonyx ๐Ÿšซ

@PotomacBob

I suspect there are other producing more, but I'm not personally a big fan of stories written in serial format so I don't really keep track of output like that. Aroslav, at least, goes back and edits some of his stories once they're completed so he can publish them in a format that's more similar to a novel.

As for you WIP project, I'd recommend that you either set aside a certain amount of time each day or a certain number of words you want to write each day and then keep to that schedule. Also, keep track! This is exceptionally important. Even if you're the only person who ever sees the list of writing times, just the fact that you're keeping track will help you stick to the schedule.

Don't worry about whether every word is perfect or if you want to edit things later, the point is to build and keep to a schedule long enough that it becomes a habit.

You shouldn't have too much trouble writing 500 - 1000 words in under an hour. If you do that every day, you've got two full-length novels in a year. Granted, there's a lot more work to creating a novel than just putting words on paper, but my point is that you're overthinking this.

If you want to be a writer, the most important thing to do is to start writing. Everything else comes after that.

This. So much this. I plotted and replotted my 'first' big story in my head for many years. I finally started it, got a chapter in, and another idea took over, which is currently over 1 million words and counting.

If you want to write, write. Heinlein went as far as to say you should only rewrite when instructed to do so by an editor, but he was working with professionals for publication. Still, write, and don't tie yourself up in knots rewriting.

I'm not sure how much he has written, but I've put out 7 books from last july to now and my goal is to have 3 to 4 more by the end of the year (my yearly goal is 6-7 books every year). So maybe I'm in the ballpark.

Not sure how to measure, by RoustWriter has been putting out a chapter of Arlene and Jeff every week, for something like 14 years. He is up to 4+ million words now.

Total word count seems a pretty good measure to me.

Story count runs into the problem that not all stories are the same size.

If you want to get at rate words/year.

Of course Teffler's Three Square Meals is up to 3.8 million words and he's only been at it for 6 years. Around 630KW/Year

14 million words in seven years for me in the A Well-Lived Life universe.

I fall into the slow writer group. I've been working on my WIP for over a year. It's currently 51 chapters and just shy of 132,000 words. And even when I get to the end, I'll still work on it for months to get it as perfect as I can. For me it's quality, not quantity, and I'm my own judge of quality.

I'm at a pace of about 680,000 words per year, for my four ATH books plus Book 5 as a WIP.

I find that if you have to work, you work, and if you have free time and are in the proper mindset, you write. There's a reason why I have Libre Office installed on ALL my computers and laptops, and keep files for editing on a USB that I simply carry in my pocket from the office to home and back again. Heck, I wrote six pages in a house waiting on the home inspector to do his thing last month, because I otherwise would've just been sitting around doing nothing.

I don't know, but I'd expect LO to have a portable version (Open Office did) which can be put on the USB as well, allowing you to use nearly any available computer.

For Windows, LibreOffice Portable. I found this useful in the (increasingly distant) past.

There are rites, rights and writes. And then there is wrong. And of course, left.

And while two wrongs might no make a right, three lefts do. :)

But, you could sic three lefties on a problem and they still wouldn't come up with the right answer. They would, of course, claim good intentions and deny any responsibility for "unforeseen" outcomes.

richardshagrin ๐Ÿšซ

@PotomacBob

Lefties are sinister. Us right handed people are dexterous. Check Latin for the reasons. I don't know any Latin word for ambidextrous people. Ambi means "both" in Latin.

"What words have the Latin root Ambi?
Words Based on the Ambi Root Word
Ambidextrous: Able to use both hands equally.
Ambiguity: The quality of uncertainty in meaning; multiple meanings.
Ambivalent : Repelled and attracted at the same time.
Ambitious: Having a desire to succeed.
Ambience: The surrounding atmosphere.
Ambiparous: Having both leaves and flowers."

I've always taken ambivalent to mean 'not bothered either way' as in "Do you want a cup of tea or coffee?" and you shrug in reply...
