Introducing the SOL Social Network - DON'T PANIC

Yes, you've read right SOL and its sister sites have build in social networking functions.

No it's not as bad as you think.

We've had this on the site for a long time for premier members/authors, and now this function is open to every registered member.

You can now follow authors. On the home page, you have a new link 'My Stream' which shows you the same info as the home page, but only entries from authors you follow.

The premier features are still more extensive as this new functionality is only a subset of the premier one.

You can follow an author by going to their page and clicking the 'Follow' link.

Oh! To me, the Forum is a social network and it has a large number of posts. Of course, it is mostly polite interchange since it is monitored closely, thanks.

I don't see the forum as a social network otherwise I wouldn't be here. We discus topics and provide help. We don't lay out our complete life like the stupids on shitbook.

Well, if you find an author's stories to be of 'Quality', then you can follow the author and that way by checking the 'My Stream' you won't miss their updates.

The follow link is 'Unfollow' for followed authors. So same spot. Unfollow.

Sorry to be a pest, however, I still seem to have a problem. If you are talking about the link in the authors profile that I clicked to follow that author, that link no longer seems to exist

For premier members, that link changes to 'Author Settings' when you're already following the author you're viewing.

To unfollow an author you have two ways:
1 - Click the 'Author Settings' link and in the form click the 'Unfollow' button.

2 - go to 'My Library', click on 'Following' and then select the author and click remove from library.

Top right hand side. Under the 'Home' link.

If you're on mobile, then it's next to authors on top.

I don't know yet. I'll have to consider all the ramifications of stuff like that. I may implement it as opt-in for readers to allow authors to see them.

This is not facebook where the point is to make money off the interactions. SOL's members tend to guard their privacy. Nothing is more illustrative than the fact that almost nobody ever tweets about stories they read here despite having the twitter link on every story for the last few years; even the no-sex stories.

Nothing is more illustrative than the fact that almost nobody ever tweets about stories they read here despite having the twitter link on every story for the last few years; even the no-sex stories.

Only feathered birds with little brains tweet, and most are yellow coloured.

I can see some of the privacy issues, so an opt-out default sounds eminently sensible.

Frankly, I don't tweet, because I'm not a twit. I don't even have an account at the Twit site. 1) again, I'm not a twit. 2) I'm not a bird, and 3) I'm not one of the women from The Music Man.

No facebook account either - or Myspace, friendster, or any of those other than LiveJournal.

I hadn't been aware it was a possibility, so when I glanced at an author's page and saw him listed as having x followers, I hopped over here to find out what was up.

In the six hours since you posted concerning this, presuming the time stamps are showing relative to my time zone, he'd already amassed 46 followers... and it's been several days since his last story update.

Of course, as I'm sure it includes those Premier members who had added him to their libraries, not all of those are since it went general access.

By the way. Monofilaments would quickly leave such questions to what is "hairy" "wrinkly" and "shrivelled" and add "and lying on the floor". They are very...sharp...for lack of a better term.

In addition, "ewww" (shudders at the thought).
