Be the main protagonist character.

Intelligent.
Moral.
Fair.
Physically skilled in combat arms of whatever era.
Respectful to those that are respectful back.
Helps lesser gifted individuals to succeed in their own lives.

The character's behavior fosters peace and fair trade so the majority of beings in that particular author imagined reality have a good life.

Yes, the protagonist has to deal with challenges to the general peace and tranquility.

The protagonist is ruthless to enemies that threaten said peace and tranquility.

Here on SOL there are many tales that fit this broad description.

Here's my first nomination.

All of the 3 tales by this author. Premium membership required, but worth a short membership to read and D/L.

What is your nomination?

Sorry, I abandoned his books halfway through the first book.

He copied the setting from Weber's Honorverse, but changed the names of places and persons, even changed some titles and ranks.
I was always guessing if the persons, places and events he used were renamed Weber's or his own. In some cases I was quite certain it was a rename, but couldn't remember the original name from Honorverse. Derailed my reading severely.

HM.

Can't disagree HM.

But...

I discovered Weber about the same time I discovered SOL, some 21-22 years ago.

My memory is poor, but IIRC it was through Baen free books that I was able to download at that time.

Weber has had multiple accolades and NY Times bestsellers. Applause.

But I find his characters to be less than honorable in how they deal with other individuals. Freehold series is but one example.

HH is a character that I cannot easily identify with until the books get her to Greyson and into her steadholding. Even then, people die due to her inattention, i.e. dome collapse as but one example.

The best characters in any of the HH tales are the Treecats.

Cheers!

Freehold series is but one example.

While the Freehold series are published by Baen, they are not Weber/Honorverse novels. ... Mike Williamson is the author.

Agreed. Fantasylover spins some interesting tales.

But often his stretching of physical reality goes deep into 'not really possible'.

In The Earl's Man there's a bow shot in the dark and rain from 600 yards to hit a castle guard in the head.

This guy, Tod Cutler, lives in the UK and makes a good living reproducing medieval weapons.

https://www.youtube.com/@tods_workshop

His passion is understanding what was real and what is not possible. Everything from swords to bows to catapults. He researches and replicates as best as possible and then tests using modern instruments.

600 yards with an English longbow? No.

Another of Fantasylover's tales is https://storiesonline.net/s/15868/spirit-quest

In this tale the protagonist has refined the Mongal bow. Apparently there was a short, used from a horse, and a long bow used from the ground. Modern reproductions of the long version are capable of sending an arrow out to about 450-500 yards.

Accuracy? Too many variables to take into account, but a 10 yard diameter circle at 400 yards? Possible.

But... suspend your disbelief and go with the fantasy.
