A change made the forum difficult to use

Switch Blayde ๐Ÿšซ

A change was made a while ago that is making the Forum difficult to use.

Now when I post something in reply to another post, my post shows up right away. I used to have to go back to the thread and click on it so it seems like it's a good change because it saves keystrokes.

But it does something negatively. If someone else posts while I'm writing my post and I go back to the thread and click on it, my post shows as unread. BUT the other post shows as read even though I never read it.

Now, whenever I post something and it immediately appears, I have to scroll up to see if someone else posted something while I was writing my post. That is really annoying.

Ditto. And it is annoying.

I recommend you use the contact link to tell Lazeez about the problem. Probablly a faster way to get the problem fixed.

@REP

Probablly a faster way to get the problem fixed.

If I thought it was a bug, I would do that. But I think it's a design flaw and posting it here allows others to comment on it. Two already agreed with me that the change is a problem. That must have weight when Lazeez considers what I said.

I reread my OP and think it needs expansion.

Since the change, when I reply to a post it is displayed immediately. But when I go to the list of threads, that thread shows up as having an unread post. When I click on it, it takes me to the post I just made.

The problem is, if others posted to the thread while I was typing mine, when the system jumps to my "unread" post it skips over those. And to make it worse, those posts are grayed out as if they were read. But they weren't read by me (unless I scroll up before posting my post).

I reverted to the old behavior where you need to click a refresh link to view your post.

How about a hybrid approach: show the response if there had not been any intervening post on the thread?

It's not just intervening posts. If there are, say, four unread posts and you reply to the first unread one, you're suggesting it expands your response right away. The problem is there are 3 unread posts after the one you replied to. Now when you go back to the list of threads and click on the one you just replied to, the system takes you to your reply, what it considers an "unread" post. But the three real unread posts are grayed out as if you read them.

The way it is now, after you reply to the first unread post you can read the other unread ones. And reply to any of those and keep reading until you read them all. Then when you go back to the list of threads and click on the one with your reply(ies), the system will take you to your first reply (and any new ones that were created).

If you like it expanded right away, simply click on the "refresh."

As a long time author and fan of your site, I find this new configuration both confusing and difficult to navigate.
I always hate it when a supposed upgrade is actually a downgrade, which is what this feels like

What new configuration? The change being commented in by the OP was changed back almost two weeks ago. So the current behaviour is as it was for a long time!
