Codes will be added as the story progresses

solitude ๐Ÿšซ

Would it be sensible to have 'codes incomplete' as a code - or, better still, as a flag that authors can set when starting a story, and automatically cleared when a story is completed?

Considering how few authors add codes as they update serials, it's not worth it.

Understood. Thanks for the fast response.

It's not uncommon to see a note in the description about codes to be added... but also its not unusual to see such a note still there, years after a story has been completed. In practice, such a note tells me to avoid the story.

Personally, while I understand the desire to avoid giving away something about the story, I absolutely detest the practice. I HATE MA/MA, mind control, non consensual, rape in any form, and will vote a 0 if that is not included in the information, being what is what is added later. That is baiting a reader into something they would normally avoid, by not including the tag at the start. I see the line "Codes will be added as the story progresses" and I will never read it, even once it is complete, since some authors never add those codes. I also never read stories with the caution tag, meaning they are skipping adding some codes because they don't want to chase off readers, then they get crap ratings from people who vote down the story. These stories are the authors, to do with as they please. Yet telling lies by omission, in an attempt to get readers, never ends well. Retaliation by trolling every story by an author, has been brought up by people I know, who read stories here, if they start something and it doesn't put a warning tag in. Petty, but until votes are only allowed by paying members, to control the amount of troll accounts, then there will be people out there, who will use their hundreds of email accounts, to kill a story's rating, or even an authors rating, across all their stories.

First I need to say I am a reader, not an author. Many authors start with only a rough idea of where the story is going, and do not know what is going to happen 2 or 3 chapters down the road. Unless the story is complete before they start posting, they may not know what tags to include, and it seems some are writing and posting one chapter at a time. I agree that once they include something, they need to add the appropriate tag, but they may not be able to identify what will happen when they post the first chapter. So you may get into a story and later find an objectionable tag, but I see no need to denigrate a story that you started off enjoying. Just stop reading. If a story is complete before posting, then it should have all the tags listed when it starts posting.

I don't disagree with the statement.

Just remember the author is in a rush to post their story. They don't need it if they wait until it is complete. Furthermore, many of those authors don't complete the story in a timely manner, if ever.

But it still makes you feel betrayed when the story changes to something you don't care for. Yea poor little baby me. I tend to get into stories to the extent it takes over a part of me. I have dreams about it, I try to figure out what might happen next.

2 examples.
one after the first 6 chapters it looks like a love story between one man and one woman. Next thing you know the girl is mostly gone and the man is screwing everything he can.

The second one is a multi-book story. Every book has the rags to riches tag but it wasn't until the 6th book that it happens and then the MC becomes an asshole IMHO.
