Forum: Bug Report and Feature Requests

Forum upvotes/downvotes

Marc Nobbs ๐Ÿšซ

Not a request as such, but I've always wondered why there isn't a "upvote" function in the forums. It seems like it's something that many other forums have (most notably Reddit, I suppose).

Just feel that sometimes you want to acknowledge a post or a reply, without having to reply to it.

That'll add one more thing for people to bitch about besides the voting system. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Actually the thumbs down is for reporting abuse, rather than disagreeing with the post. But I do think we need a thumbs up.

But I do think we need a thumbs up.

Will that mean approval of the abuse? :)

It is not a bad idea, but I tend to agree with Michael Loucks. However, thread drift will make any use of the feature meaningless for you won't know if the up/down ratings relate to the original post or to an off-topic post.

Sometimes I'm the same. I agree with something, but don't reckon it warrants a written reply, but equally, I also feel that the poster needs some form of feedback (Maybe they were giving a rhetorical answer or something). So occasionally I will simply post a thumbs up. Or they might have answered a question I asked (in the forums), and I wish to acknowledge the reply without going to all the tedious and time consuming effort of typing "Thank-you".

I do agree that a simple thumbs up, or down, would be nice to have. Say someone made a post on the 'Feature Requests' forum and I thought it was a sensible suggestion, so wished to show my agreement. And vice versa, if I thought the request was a complete waste of time, then I could 'downvote' it without going to the potentially troublesome effort of typing "Go take your head for a shite..."

"Go take your head for a shite..."

Why does this make me think you must be Scottish?

Worse, much worse.

The Sirius Cybernetics Corporation is the primary manufacturer and supplier of androids, robots and autonomic assistants for the known universe. They are known for their catchy jingles and catchphrases, which are supplied by their Marketing Department.

The corporation is not known for the quality of their products, and almost all of their known inventions are faulty.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy describes the Marketing Department of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation as: "A bunch of mindless jerks who'll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes."

Ah, so the HHGTG was Scottish. Got ya.

I would not mind a thumbs-up reaction for "Well said" but I sometimes would like a separate reaction for puns.

I used to know how to program 'Report Program Generator'

I had that in programming school (I think in 1970). First they taught us BAL (Basic Assembly Language), then COBOL, then RPG. The only program in my life I was never able to get to work was the RPG one.

I first learned programming using Plug (or Control) Boards used to sort Punch Cards back in the 60's. The college had an older IBM 604 connected to an IBM 521 Card Reader/Punch. I finally recycled the instruction manuals last year. They were all in 3 ring binders.
