Favorite or exclude author

AmigaClone ๐Ÿšซ

Something that recently occurred to me is that it appears to be possible that an author can appear in the "favorite author" list and the "excluded author" list.

How hard would it be to warn the reader if they are either trying to exclude an author they had on their favorite's list or put and author that is on their excluded list on their favorites list?

It is very possible. There is no checking in the code.

It's not too hard, but I never thought it would ever be necessary.

Being on both lists would be odd. However, would it be a problem?

Being on both lists would be odd

I can see how it would happen. A writer that always writes about, say, scat, decides to try their hand at a different genre. They do a decent job with a high enough score, that when the reader (with Scat on their exclusion list) sees the story on 'random story from the archive' (archive stories to not adhere to exclusions) decides to give it a go, and likes it.

Likes it enough to add the story to their 'favourites' list.

Therefore creating a literary hyperbolic paradoxical conflation.

Or something.

Having a favorited author writing stories with categories you have excluded is NOT the situation described by the OP.

You can exclude authors by name. The OP is talking about having an other both on favorited and on their author exclusion list.

is NOT the situation described by the OP.

I think it might be. I just worded it poorly.

When I said "Exclusion list" I wasn't thinking of the site's category exclusion list, but more of the internal exclusion list everyone has in their head, reference stories. ie an individual doesn't like (for the sake of this discussion) scat stories, and this author only writes scat stories, so the OP hides the author/excludes them from Storiesonline story lists (Author lists, not category list), and then forgets about them.

Meanwhile, (some time later) that author writes a story not including scat, which is displayed on the home front page. The OP, forgetting they have excluded the author, reads the synopsis, finds it appealing, reads the story, enjoys it enough to favourite it, goes to read more of that authors work, only to find out that the rest of their work is objectionable and that they (the OP) have excluded/blocked the author's stories in the past from appearing.

Edit: Hence how the author ended up being on both the favourite author list and the excluded one. Also, I used singular for simplicity, but it could well be that the author wrote a sequel to the one the OP liked, or a few others similar in tone, which were enough for the OP to 'favourite' the author. On that note, I'm not sure how many readers here 'Favourite' an author after one story, or even what the median is (ie, is it after three stories where the average reader decides they like the writer. Or is it more/less?).

Probaly been answered elsewhere, but how do you exclude/block an author?
