I started reading a story on a British / English engineer, based in England, who was asked to go the the US to help out 3Sigma with a project together with his younger colleague / lover.
Got to where the were flying to the US, having "spoken" to the girls and getting to know them.
Can't find it.
It is not "Melodic Redemption"
Hope you can help me find the story.

The story is Runaway and the author called himself Sparkyman1961 at the time (that changed frequently), it is referenced in Community Chapter 49 (look for the name "Duncs").
He pulled all of his stories several years ago.
Edit: I've found the link - https://storiesonline.net/s/72782 - and you can see what I mean about the author changing his name. I assume Jane is his wife, I think she was in the story.

I wonder if the story has been reposted, although I can't find it under the original name. It was around 30 chapters and started off with the MC finding this 13-year-old runaway girl and taking her in.
She turned 14, and the two of them got together after he completed the separation from his wife. His daughter - who was the same age - was all for it, she later joined his engineering company and they met up with the Smart Girls crew.
If that matches your memory, it is probably a repost.

The story started with the MC coming into the office in England and talking to a female - younger - colleague (who was also lover I think in the past) about a project they have to work on in the US. This is where 3Sigma etc. comes into the story. They're flying to the US with her worrying about being up to it..

U remember the story the OP is looking for. It was by the same person who wrote Runaway, and was set after Runaway, as the opening couple of chapters made reference to the events in that story.
I remember starting Runaway, but it didn't hook me so I set it aside. The Community tie-in never got finished.
I had a great 'across the pond' correspondence with the author of Runaway. He and I were going to collaborate on a bit of the story here his side met with my side.
Unfortunately there was a situation that took him and his stories off-line.
I think it would've been a great excursion, but that's not how it worked out.

The bit you ask for in the original post is just a (couple of) chapter(s) of Community, as @Dinsdale notes. The stpry which developed the characters before the tie-in to Community is the deleted Runaway, and IIRC that author actually wrote the insert chapter(s) of Community (Oyser50 wrote a little about this in a long-ago blog post). @Dinsdale's other post is slightly wrong or refers to a different story, as the runaway girl is 16/17 and Duncs does not separate from his wife in the Community linked story.
I'd check out the Community chapter referenced to see if this is what you remember, but if it's the associated story you want (which doesn't actually have any Smart Girls characters in it) you're reduced to begging people for a saved copy.
