Young man loses job, meets young teen girl runaway in city park, then they decide to walk across America just south of US-Canada boarder. They meet another younger runaway in Maine, who joins them. They cross a couple of states, then are caught in severe storm, and sent back to1800s. They do some gold prospecting, then are planning to head west, but the older girl becomes pregnant, so they decide to wait until after the baby comes. They pick up some new friends, including a large but non violent ex trapper. They pick up some orphans, a serving girl who is is being abused, and a few slaves. (Who they buy so they can later free them.) They pick up others, including a few extra "wives" for the main character. The group heads toward jumping off point for Oregon Trail, while main character and1 or 2 wives head for big bank (I think in Boston) to pick up their gold. After getting their money, they head back to the main group, and pink up a half breed White/Indian girl they had met while going east. Bigots had killed her parents.going west, I think they met another family who were kicked back from the future. The father hater roughing it, and the old west, and became violent to his wife. He was bought off and left his family.
The smaller group met up with the main group, then headed west on a wagon train.
I don't remember much else, but have been trying to find the story for about6 weeks without success. I hope with the early details, someone will quickltID the story.
Thanks to all.
