Memory like a goldfish - Sorry "Yet another lost story request"

grandad_rufus ๐Ÿšซ
Updated:

I actually read this sometime over the last 3 months I think. Similar to the Lucky Jim stories.

Guy inherits a property, and finds entrance to hidden basement uner the stairs. There was some work with ground radar to find water and a tunnel was dug for wind turbines. I house was built on the other side of a mountain (I think) which some family moved into - They find guns, jewels and old coins in the basement.

Help put me out of my misery please guys!

Regards G_R

P.S. I seem to recall something about a furniture store with a closed off storage area with some antique furniture in it - But that may have been a different story

That might me Ernest Bywater's Mallard Heir.

https://storiesonline.net/s/14392/mallard-heir

It certainly has some of those elements, particularly the tunnel under the hill iirc.

Thank you Ernest, I have downloaded Mallard from Finestories as it was one that I forgot to do.

I would like to thank you once again for all the wonderful tales you post.

OK - This was definitely a different story. I do remember something led the main character and a female (wife / gf ?) to a furniture store which was run down. Their other branches sold newer stuff. They buy the place "Lock Stock & Barrel", then find a door to a hidden store room behind a dresser or something. This store room is full of valuable furniture which they now legally own.

If this rings any bells - please let me know!

are you sure ti was a store, and not a house. In 101 Bell Whistle he buys a house and finds the place is full of antique furniture, they later find an old smugglers tunnel and more things.

I think this is one of the Personalia stories. Couple is running stores as a front for colony in another star system and buys the business cause it is failing but meets their needs, then find all this stuff stored.

On a (completely unrelated) side note, I'm considering writing a story which includes a telepathic goldfish as one of the characters in the story. I don't know whether s/he has Alzheimer's yet or not, though. 'D

Nah, that would be called 'Nailing Fish Tail.'

It could be set in Fin Land.
