I don't think it's In The Navy. The main character does help start a tailor shop and maybe one or two other businesses but no banks
I believe in 1 of the stories in the series they (Robert and ? I think?) do start a bank or investment bank/house...can't remember which one though

This does sound like it comes from the Anthony Carter universe. The earliest references are probably in Ellen (although I believe Anthony Carter once attended a reception hosted by a financier named Norton, and he married into the Lambert family.)

That's cause they do... I just couldn't remember and didn't want to spend the time searching chapters for the story they created the Investment Bank in.. :D
The author pulled it a long time ago (12-15 years?) for publication. Then briefly re-posted a slightly expanded version but pulled it agai8n shortly after. A great series, though.
