I've been meaning to make more posts touting stories I like, but never getting around to it. Time to actually do it.

This week, I'd like to spotlight a story I rarely see mentioned here, except by the author: Blizzard. It's got great characters and a great story. I adore Team Girlfriend, and I love how the characters methodically work through how the magic spell works, how to live with it, and how to break it. It's one of two SOL stories I never delete from my e-reader, so I can always have it on hand. (The other is Don Lockwood's Heroes.)

I do, actually, have a question for the author, if he's still hanging around the forum: have you ever read Diana Wynne Jones?

I tried to read Blizzard today. Something ain't right. First several "chapters" are identical and seem to be an author's note rather than part of a story.

Well, that's weird. When I follow the link above, there's an author's note above the TOC, but when I check the chapters, the first five are all different and contain the story I expect. Perhaps a message to the system manager is in order, explaining the site behavior you're seeing?

When I do what you described, using the link above, it's okay, looking at one chapter at a time. But if I download the whole story, the author's note is what is in the first nine chapters. I'll send a message, but how is it possible for it to be different, depending on how you download the story?

That definitely is a bug that needs reporting. Make sure to mention which kind of download you did.

Answer to the question: No, I haven't read any Diana Wynne Jones, but I'll check her out.

Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm very proud of Blizzard, easily my best, and this is thanks to the amazing work of my editor DS. I'm an OK writer on my own, he proved to me that I can be great, I just need a good helping hand.

Her fantasies for teens are better than her two novels for adults. Possible titles to check out include Howl's Moving Castle (yes, the basis for the movie), The Lives of Christopher Chant, or Archer's Goon.

Picked up Howl's Moving Castle and Archer's Goon off of audible, got Archer's Goon queued up for my next book of January.

The dovetail plotting hinged on significant-in-hindsight details.

You may also like the Chrestomancy books—I recommend starting with the early ones, though otherwise the order doesn't really matter.
