The only thing I have to complain about (more of a question, really...) is how, considering all the stories and blog entries he has made to SOL, do you manage to mangle the spelling of JRyter's name so completely?

Perhaps he is like me - a phonetic speller who mispronounces words. :)

I doubt you can blame that on a mobile phone keypad. ;)

That's the excuse many Facebook posters use.

I suspect it's a voice to text problem.

No problem with phonetic spelling, but I've never heard of a phonetic reader...

Quite a lot of people are writing what they hear, and it's even in grammar in lot of languages around a World. In my language main rule is read what is written (letter for letter) and write what is said (also letter for letter).

Only you poor english oriented writers must write with such ridiculous spelling. Brrr, if there were not good online dictionaries and last 4-5 years Google translate I would long ago given your language one big good bye...

That's because of the history of the language with Celtic, a fer Germanic, Latin, Greek, French, and Spanish all dumped in the language at different times. The new is added while the old is retained.

Other languages have their words added. Al Gebra is Arabic, I think. Sometimes its names of food, like kimchi from Korea. The sciences influence English and acronyms and trademarks like Xerox and Kleenex come from somewhere, probably not Celtic, Germanic, Latin, Greek, French or Spanish. Did we leave out Anglo-Saxon for some reason?

They're the two main Germanic languages Anglic and Saxon.

Most other languages import a new word for a new concept, while English has a whole bunch of words shoved in for existing concepts - the biggest cause is the wholesale inclusion of Norman French on the Celt/Anglo/Saxon version with both being used at once.

True. English, in whatever flavour, is a really crap language with zillions of irregularities. The problem is that all other languages are worse.

I had a secondment to a unit converting on-line help systems from English into other languages. English produced the smallest and most precise help files.

I'm sure you have. It's called reading out loud. :)
