I know absolutely nothing about him as a person. The name is likely a pseudonym. I have read all his work and they are fantastic.

I am currently reading book 8 of intemperance. I'm exactly halfway through it, and I'm already mourning that I will soon be finished.

I know book 9 is coming, and I believe I read it is expected to be the final book. That may or may not be correct.

This is the first time I've ever actually DREADED finishing a book, because I love the series and characters so much!

There are many authors i enjoy very deeply on this site, but Al Steiner has become the very peak for me. After this many books in the series, I have yet to come across a character I didnt remember. For a series of this length, that shows a level of plotting and making even small characters matter. This is an incredibly skilled writer!

Funny, I gave up on Intemperance part way through book 2. I loved Doing It All Over, as well as Greenies and A Perfect World.
I could simply never get into Aftermath, and while I thought Homebodies was okay it also wasn't, IMO, as good as the top shelf stories in that series.

I do, hhowever, have a huge amount of trouble swallowing the economic bullshit of the currently-posting First of the Stoners. As from Lazlo Zalezac's William Redman Carter:
William said, "There is no advantage to having a huge population of poor people from the perspective of big business. Poor people make poor consumers. They can't afford cars, new homes, new appliances, or expensive services. They don't have the kinds of skills and education to make them valuable employees. Poverty cost big businesses money. They pay taxes that are diverted to helping the poor rather than into infrastructure development that would directly impact the profitability of the company."

Steiner's Greenieverse has has basically the entire population (even the employed) riding that line. It also makes no sense that companies would be willing to keep extending loans that their systems have to say will never get paid off.

All that being said, they are still enjoyable stories.

Um... that's the whole basis of the credit card industry.
They hate nothing more than someone who pays off his debt.

I was 60 when I got my first credit card and only because I needed to increase my credit score so I would be eligible to get in a trailer park. I make sure I pay off my card every month. I went from 250 before card to over 700 in a few months.
