I've seen a number of stories on the SOL homepage recently that appear to be credited to two authors. Is that what is actually going on?

I don't know why creepyunclepete is doing this.
He created his pen names like so:
CreepyUnclePete - by AuthorWench
CreepyUnclePete - by Limnophile
Don't know why.
Is that what is actually going on?
I have no idea either.
I don't read his stories.
The only things that come to my mind regarding an author name that appears to be two writers would be: 1) a split personality :), 2) an identity crisis :), and 3) an attempt to adopt a different writing style without affecting his "creepyunclepete" followers.

I follow at least one dead tree published "author" in the urban fantasy space where the pseudonym is a husband and wife team that writes together.
4a) letting post other authors using his account
4b) posting other authors stories here, adding their name to avoid being called plagiarist.
HM.

IIRC, AuthorWench and Limnophile are both decent authors who post under their own names. Perhaps CreepyUnclePete is their editor or adds value in some other way.

Or, sometimes authors use one pen-name for one type of story, and another pseudonym for other times (ex: straight porn vs. plot based). It's also common for authors to post under another name, if they suspect their readers will feel they're 'betraying' their fans for writing in another genre. I've never quite figured out why, personally, yet it seems to be a fairly common practice (not here, but with traditionally published stories, at least.
For example, I do that all the time here, as if I want to have an honest discussion, I'll use my own name, though if I'm going to criticize them, I'll use this one. That's intentional, not just because I'm helplessly confused, though that does help too.
Same. My stories that are all safe for posting at other places use this name because I started elsewhere for many years (though now consider here my main home). Stories that would have been caught under the age panic go under a different name.
My ai play is under another, though I don't know that many more will go there for a long time

The reasons are many. One of the most common is 'genre change' and the fact that many genre fans do not cross over well. A recent example is JK Rowling. The majority of HP fans were young readers yet the content of the Galbraith books are more adult orientated. Given the time elapsed between, many of her initial child readers are now adults, but famously, the Galbraith books did not sell well on their own merit, until the truth became known.
I believe Rowling's intent (and statement), that she had no desire to be 'outed' and that the 'outing' itself, was done deliberately by the publisher, for (the publishers own) financial gain.
Tom Holt, famous for writing light hearted books, wanted to write something very dark and 'became' KJ Parker.
There are many writers who don't actually exist because they are one or more individual writing in collaboration. James S Corey (Who wrote the scifi series The Expanse), turned out to be Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck.

This is most definitely a 'thing' and no 'suspect' about it, and by gosh, they will let you know itβ¦. LOL. To the point that they will actively 'down vote' the story(s) they have issue with, as a means to 'encourage' you to go back to writing what they want to read. Think of it as a digital Stephen King 'Misery'β¦
And I write this as someone who only fairly recently 'came out' here (well, about five or so years ago) about four of their 'other' pseudonyms. Part of that was because the secrecy had served its initial purpose.
I'll use my own name, though if I'm going to criticize them, I'll use this one.
It sounds as if that is the reason I see Forum posts credited to Crumbly Writer and Vincent Berg.
In the past, you used Crumbly Writer as your Author Name on SOL. Then you started posting stories to SOL using Vincent Berg, which was your professional Author Name. I wondered why you were now using both when posting in the Forum.

Reposting my stories
Posted at 4/9/2025, 8:57:12 PM
Due to the 'Character Age Panic' about two weeks ago, I and many other writers requested that our stories be removed from Storiesonline. The site moved to a new hosting company, so there's no longer an issue.
My friends Limnophile and Authorwench removed their stories as well. They are retiring from the site, at least temporarily, and gave me permission to post their works on my account.
I plan to re-upload approximately 120 stories total, probably one or two per day, since I am giving all of them another read and edit first.
If you like a story please leave a comment, or at least vote on it. Commenting and voting only take a few seconds, and encourages us to keep writing. Just a simple "Good stuff" or "Hot story" makes my day!

Since many people have asked me about this in the last couple of hours...
For more details about the "purge" / "character age panic", please check the Forum at https://storiesonline.net/d/s1/t13288/relief
Everything is now the same as it was for most site visitors. The URL (web address) is still https://storiesonline.net
I have started the process of reposting my old stories using my main account "CreepyUnclePete". The ones by my friends will be under "CreepyUnclePete - by AuthorWench" or "CreepyUnclePete - by Limnophile"
