First: Character is king. There are probably fewer than six books every century remembered specifically for their plots. People remember characters. Same with television. Who remembers the Lone Ranger? Everybody. Who remembers any actual Lone Ranger story lines? Nobody.
So my lead character had to carry the whole weight.

The Disney Corporation had issues for years with illegitimate Disney porn stories, made worse because there were a couple porn shorts actually written and produced by Disney employees shortly after Mickey Mouse first appeared on screen.

Only a short while after they got the internet started, they started posting the 'ancient' Disney porn films on the early share sites, which is where I viewed them. Since porn hadn't gotten a foothold yet, it was the first-of-its-kind in more ways than one.
I'd agree with that summation. Despite how many people LOVE my Catalyst and Great Death stories, they remember Alex and Dave much more than the plot details. The details come and go (and hold the plot together) but it's the characters who breathe life into the work and make it come alive for readers. It's also why readers get so upset when you kill off their favorite characters!
