Editor Credits

Vincent Berg ๐Ÿšซ

It just struck me and I'm curious (even if I never do anything about it). Normally, Lazeez doesn't allow external links, but what if we wanted to list our editors emails when we post their names in the end-of-story Notes (and they agreed, of course)? Would that be allowed, and does anyone (authors or editors) care one way or the other?

It would make it easier for other authors to reach out and contact them (since many have different IDs when they make entries on the Forum, and not every author/editor uses the Forums) for assistance, though it might also open them to abuse if the author pisses someone off.

By the way, while I haven't tried this, I do this when I publish ebooks, just in case any other authors purchase it and say "Damn, I need me some amateur editors!" 'D

I think the present system of just posting their names at the end of the story/each chapter is good enough.
If people want their services then they can find their contact details in the Authors/Editors Find volunteer Editors section.

@Grant

I agree.

Alternatively, they can send the author a feedback message and arrange contact through the author.

Laz will allow external links. He allowed me a couple when I asked (admittedly one was to Finestories.com).

I suppose you would have to ask him, but I doubt he'd do an e-mail link unless expressly asked by the address holder.

I don't think he's philosophically opposed to external links, he just wants to carefully control them. I don't blame him.

I discussed it with him. His objection is some author using a short, crappy story to infect reader's computers with suspicious software for 'clickbait' links (which is how many authors make money off their websites).

Emails wouldn't post that threat, but as I mentioned, might expose the recipient to potential abuses (hence my reluctance to do it unless authorized).

If the editor agreed, you could always put their email address in a blog entry. That way if you add more editors or they change their email adress it's easy to just update the blog.

This seems so obvious it might be a dumb question ...
Why not provide an internal link to the editors' profile on the site, which allows emails be sent to them?

not all of them have profiles on the site

not all of them have profiles on the site

If they want recognition by the author, and I can understand that, they could set up a profile and then set their current availability at zero hours.
My point is I doubt the webmaster would impose restrictions on external links without some good reason. Finding an alternative way to skin this cat seems very simple, if the editor wants it enough.

and they'll still get requests to edit stories from people.. If they wanted a profile they would've had one. many don't want their email address out there where anyone can see it, anyway.

Not if the current availability being set to zero turns off the email link.

Not if the current availability being set to zero turns off the email link.

which negates the purpose of providing the email in the first place. best do nothing if that's the case.

Not necessarily. Few of my editors have come from the 'volunteer editor' page, so many don't even know it exists or gave on using it years ago (before Lazeez finally started cleaning out all the dead-wood deceased editors on it), yet they're still looking for other work to keep them busy.

@Ross at Play

I see no reason for Lazeez to bother doing anything to satisfy this request.

I never asked him to. I was simply bouncing the idea off of other authors/editors to see what the consensus was. If there was any interest, I might have asked about it, but there's no reason to be hostile about it. You seem to be on a real 'law and order', 'never leave anything out of any voluntary form kick lately.

@Vincent Berg

Not necessarily.

I've four editors, all of them know of the editor's page, and only one is listed there. Three of them approached me about editing because they like my work, the fourth is a family member I asked to proof read my stories. The three not listed are very picky about who they'll work with, and approach authors to offer their services direct.

That's the best argument against it. The second-best is, I don't know of a single author who read a book from a bookstore and said "Damn, I've got to get that editor!".

If email addresses are enclosed in quotation marks, readers will simply have to copy and paste to send an email.
