Image editing software

DarkKnight ๐Ÿšซ

I've been thinking about trying my hand at adding images to the covers of some of my stories. I can see how it, as the realtors say, adds curb appeal.

Can anyone recommend some simple editing tools that work on a Chromebook? All I need is to do some cropping and add the necessary text.

recommend some simple

I use GIMP, but I wouldn't call it simple. I've never used Canva (https://www.canva.com), but remember that's what many kids on wattpad used for their covers. There's a free version.

EDITED: corrected the name of the software I use. I had a senior moment.

I've just started to play with Canva today. Guess I'll keep at it. Tks for the feedback.

I started using Canvas back in the 80's. It is my current graphics program. If you have any questions, I will try to answer them. Send me a private message.

I'm also a GIMP user. It is a lot like Photoshop 3.0, which is the version I learned in school, so it's obviously the best version!

Tee hee.

I haven't used Canva, either. But when I saw it used, it seemed like the exact thing I used to do as a graphic designer, but a lot simpler. So I'll be the old guy in the corner yelling at the stupid clouds for blocking my view!

I'm using PhotoSuite from Corel. It was originally (1995) from MGI as a stand alone program. Then it was included in Corel Office with WordPerfect & Quatro Pro. It seems it is now part of Roxio Creator.nxt.

I'm on a Mac and I use Pixelmator, which is fairly easy to use.

How? On this site, the image won't show up until the reader has 'opened the book'.

Two things: If a reader is not sure if he/she wants to read a story just based on the codes and description, sometimes that can help get them interested.

Second, if your story is featured on the SOL Twitter page, it attracts attention.

There are a lot of stories posted here every day, and I really like to do anything I can to attract readers. Yeah, I'm an attention whore.

Okay I'm not a Twitter user, and wasn't aware of the SOL Twitter page. I assume the covers show up there - if so, my theory that you have to open the book to see the cover is incomplete.

What is the SOL Twitter page?

@Mat Twassel

On the SOL homepage, the last entry in the second-tier menu bar is a link to SOL's Twitter feed.

I believe SciFiStories and FineStories have their own Twitter feeds.

But what exactly does the Twitter Feed do? Who has access? What is it they access? How?

I'm not 100% certain but I think management runs it, largely on autopilot, to attract new readers to the site by publicising new stories. There's probably some filtering against stories with extreme content (not a good advert) and Laz used the forum to solicited memorable story quotes for further publicity-worthy content.

I have no idea whether it's write only or whether management monitors for external Tweets and PMs (if they're enabled).

In other words, I don't know much.

ETA Bookapy has a presence on Twitter too, @bookapy.

the SOL Twitter page

I guess now it's the SOL X page, or in SOL's case, maybe the SOL XXX page.

It has to be the PG rated SOL X page.

Isn't that where all the SOL abandoned stories go? ;)

The SOL menu now says Twitter/X, as do the SciFiStories and FineStories menus.
