HELP - GIMP on Mac

Switch Blayde ๐Ÿšซ

I was creating a book cover using GIMP on my Mac and GIMP froze.

I exported the cover to a jpg. That worked. But when I went back to GIMP, it was frozen. I had to do a forced close of the app. Then when I brought it back up, it wasn't working.

The Problem โ€”

When I click on File/Open and then (try) to click on a folder, nothing happens. I can't even click on the Cancel at the bottom. I can't click on anything.

I tried reinstalling GIMP, replacing the old one. Didn't work. I then moved the old one to trash and reinstalled it again. Still didn't work. Then I shut my MacBook Pro down and rebooted and tried again. Same problem.

Anyone know what could cause this? And how to fix it.

When I downloaded it, I chose the "for Apple Silicon directly" button.

Thanks.

Delete your Gimp profile

Maybe try the 2.99.18 beta version...

GIMP is long dead:
* No money
* Developers are way past retirement or very temporary students doing a school assignment, nobody stick to the project.
* The security is horrendous (they still embed a Python 2 which was put to rest in 2020)
* There is a distinct lack of non destructive editing.

Maybe you should switch to Krita. or use LibreOffice Draw

Personally, I prefer to use notepad do do the cover:
Make an SVG for the texts, embed the image and convert to bitmap with imageMagick.
At least this way, with css I can script the multiple format generation.

If however, you want to make cover for print none of the above will cut it.
Normally, you would use InDesign. I heard good things about the last Scribus version but, I never used it.

In OSX: /Users/{your_id}/Library/GIMP/2.10/ or possibly /Users/{your_id}/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.10/

I don't have a Library folder under my "your-id" so I can't find the profile. But I must have one because even after I deleted and reinstalled GIMP, it remembered my recents.

I don't have a Library folder

The library folder is hidden.

In the Finder, click the 'Go' menu, and hold down the option key. You'll see a new item appear titled Library, select it.

That worked. Thanks.

I deleted the GIMP profile. Then deleted GIMP and reinstalled it.
It seems to be working.

Thanks.

@Switch Blayde

Is it possible that your OS (antivirus software or something else) created an error file or report that is preventing the OS from executing GIMP commands.
