Patient names at Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital

Bondi Beach ๐Ÿšซ

While waiting for a prescription for our senior cat (20 going on 21) earlier today, I made a list of the patients who had checked in earlier. Sadly, I overlooked the column that showed what they were:

Brooke
Flirt and Azure
Pablo Ulloa
Moon Cera
Sly
Mac
Ricky
Twiggy.

What does this have to do with writing? Absolutely nothing, unless you need a bit of color for a vet story you're writing. If you do, be my guest.

@Bondi Beach

At our local vet the owners sign in using their names, not their animal's ones.
You now have me wondering whether or not the names are for humans.
If you are west coast, it could be either....

Ha ha. There's another column for the humans. Otherwise, one might wonder, since a young man with the name "Pablo Ulloa" was shot dead in Chicago earlier this year ... OTOH, he probably wasn't the only one with that name, but if he was your comment about "who knows" might be closer to the mark.

Anyone remember a kid named Tiger Lily? So why not?

Or River Phoenix (though if he was at a vet, it would probably be River Piddle).

My wife pitched a fit when I wanted to name my coon hound "Cod SacK". She did consent to the names I picked out for the two chihuahuas, Dusty and Dirty.
I got a perverse pleasure every time I got to say,"Honey, I'll go find flea soap while you get Dusty and Dirty.

I believe there's a story code for that. If not, there should be.

If I recall there was a thread a month or so ago about where writers get their character's names. I can see most of the names appearing in a story other than a vet story.

Vet stories might be rare, but it's easy enough to add a character's pet with an intriguing personality to help spice up a story.

I'm surprised I never considered that.

In Door into Summer, one of his cheesier novels, Robert Heinlein's cat played a significant role, although I cannot remember its name. A low point was dialogue between Heinlein's character and the cat.

EDIT to add: I mean, "Leonard Vincent" becomes "Leonardo da Vinci"? Evidently Heinlein never had an art history class. Even I, who got a D in Art History (which my spouse never stops reminding me of---she was in the same class), saw that one.

The story was a paean to engineers, however. That was pretty good.

That's what I thought about "Moon Cera," although I may have copied it wrong---there was a smudge on "Cera." No idea what the name means, but then that's why they pay us authors the big bucks, right?

True and with those big bucks, I might be able to buy a cup of coffee.

Que Cera, Cera Whatever will be, will be. Spelling definitely not guaranteed. Maybe its Kay Serra, Serra? Cera sounds to me like "will be".
