I've been working on a story where at some points I use among, and others I use amongst. Websters says that they are essentially used the same way, and considers amongst somewhat nonstandard.
I'm thinking that amongst fits in the story I'm working on as I'm trying to give a feeling of a very different sort of story in a very different sort of world....
