I am constantly amazed at how many Americans imagine that a simple plural can have an apostrophe in it.
There are websites such as Grammarly that explain the spelling of plurals, and nowhere do they suggest adding an apostrophe to make a plural. Apostrophes are for indicating belonging to, e.g. Roberts means two people named Robert,(or a Roberts family surname) and Robert's hat means a hat pertaining to Robert.
Most errors relate to plurals of surnames. Correctly: "The Thomsons were our neighbours." You should NEVER say "The Thomson's were our neighbours (or Neighbors if you are using US English).
If you refer to a family's ownership, you say: The Thomsons' cattle (the cattle belonging to the Thomsons).
You can tell I was a librarian and also a newspaper journalist!
