I noticed a couple of complaints about the story regarding Hank being "Too calm." "Too Focused." or not able to "have his stuff together at eighteen."
But my personal experience with someone I went to high school with tells me that there are some exceptional people. A friend I was in high school with lost both parents and an older sibling due to a criminal act. He graduated with a Hardship Diploma at 17, and had Inherited his father's business.
At 23, he managed to grow it into a franchise. He retired at 53, moved to Florida, and I talked with him a lot until he died ten years ago.
I never knew the circumstances of his life with respect to his parent's and sister's murder. "Don't ask, Don't Tell".
Hank is my imagination of How Pat would have handled things.
