Romeo and Emily

Posted at Updated:

I blogged a couple of weeks ago after I published Monsoon that I had two story plots that I was working on: Emily and The Heist.

The story about Emily, the mistress of the manor, was extremely fun to write. I deliberately spiralled into farce at the end. My favourite lines are "Paris? Who the fuck is Paris?" and "why, it looked like he meant to win!"

And whilst I like my own stories such as Monsoon and Alice and Lizzy rather more than the average reader here perhaps does - I think they are all the most awesome stories ever ;) - Emily's story seems to have landed better. If the public like her, they may want more of her?

And luckily I have become so fond of Emily and especially the teachers that I'm not about to stop! And so I have decided to rework my The Heist plot to use the same cast: Romeo and Emily becomes now the first story in a series. The second, which I've just started on, picks up straight after and has the working title Emily and Clyde.

Like all my stories, Emily and Clyde starts in my mind by assembling some of the sketches I've daydreamed up into something that can be woven together as a consistent plot. Then I find the sketches get tainted to fit how I imagine the characters acting: for example, the heroine of The Heist was to be nerdy girl walking into a restaurant like Pretty Woman, and now it's ... possibly ... Emily instead. (Note to self: maybe Will gets some assistance from a nerdy version of Ruth this time?)

I guess I could alternatively rework Romeo and Emily into the first chapter(s) of à longer story, but I've opted to test out the site's series functionality instead.
