'Exit' is a noun. Inevitably, it has been made into a verb. Inexorably, it is overused. As an editor, I correct it, as a writer, I prefer to use words that enliven the story, enhance the narrative. 'Lept out'; 'Plodded through the door'; 'Struggled from the driver's seat'… Why use a manufactured, crippled, created verb when you have an opportunity to make your story glow?
