"Card Party" was ended too soon; there are eight more chapters. I'm working on it. Hang in there!
I blush - sort of - to acknowledge all of you who reminded me of the early use of 'exit' dating to the Bard and before. Not to mention Latin derivation. Rants can be like that, hasty and not thought through. Thank you all. I remain, however, righteously annoyed at the misuse of the word when a writer could choose better.
'Exit' is a noun. Inevitably, it has been made into a verb. Inexorably, it is overused. As an editor, I correct it, as a writer, I prefer to use words that enliven the story, enhance the narrative. 'Lept out'; 'Plodded through the door'; 'Struggled from the driver's seat'… Why use a manufactured, crippled, created verb when you have an opportunity to make your story glow?
