Chapter Eight A Family Squabble
James is outnumbered.
One wife was a challenge — now he’s up against two. Can he survive the tag team, or is he doomed to a lifelong stay in the doghouse?
The battle? Child safety vs. social status — and it’s James versus the Mercer women.
James wants an armored car to shuttle their daughters safely to and from school. The Mercer women? They see it as their ticket into Washington high society.
Chapter Seven is in the queue.
James and his family receive unwelcome visitors: his estranged mother and creepy brother arrive in Washington, convinced he’s dead and eager to claim what they believe she’s owed — accompanied by a slimy attorney ready to manipulate the law. But it’s James’s brother who unsettles the household the most. He moves quietly on the edges, rarely seen but always felt. His eyes linger too long on Karen and Andi, casting a shadow over the home. His silence and presence put the women on edge — an unexplained danger.
Chapter Six is in the queue. The Mercer family continues to evolve.
As promised, I have Chapter Three in the queue.
James is back in the United States. The reason for his return is painful—he had to say goodbye to someone very close to him. But that’s not the only difficult thing he’s facing. He also has to deal with seeing Karen again, along with his daughters. Seeing them is a double-edged sword: he feels anger toward Karen and guilt for not being there for his girls. Not everyone is happy to see him either, and he has to navigate that tension. Now, he's facing challenges he never had to confront when he left the country.
