It probably didn't read as uncompleted, but I'd accidentally lost a middle section of Chapter 19 (An Unexpected Guest) on the bus ride when I split what was originally one massive chapter about Ethan's family on the bus into two. I think if you already read it right after publishing you're probably fine, you got all the same plot beats, but you may want to take another look at it now that the correct chapters have been reposted.
Hope you're enjoying it, and sorry about the mix-up (hopefully the chapters were only weird for about half a day). I'll try to be more diligent and careful posting going forward. Thanks!
New chapter just dropped today. Now that I'm zeroing in on 15 chapters, I have a question for my readers.
Would you consider "Ethan's Nieces" to be a "Stroke Story" or a "Much Sex" story? I keep waffling as to what to designate it. My goal was to replicate or modernize the old Greenleaf or Liverpool Library classic porn novels of the 60s and 70s, every chapter indulging in a sexual encounter or two, pure masturbatory wank that was immediately forgettable once you finished, and that's my model of a Stroke Story.
But as happens when an author is enjoying their work, it's turned into its own thing and I can no longer see the forest for the trees, which is fine. That's what happens. Most of the feedback I've gotten has been about half "here's the kink I'd like to see you do" and half "here's a fun plotline I'd love to see followed". So I think I'm straddling a line?
Feel free to offer me your thoughts here on this blog, or over on this thread in the Author's Forum. Not that I think the designation matters that much, but it's a useful thing for me to get a sense of.
I have been a fan of reading erotic literature since I was an older teenager, I have wanted to write and publish it for probably almost two decades — my Google Docs are embarrassingly chock full of unread, half-written stories and even more story ideas and plot outlines. I want to express some appreciation for the positive responses I've gotten so far from some of you after finally pulling the trigger on posting something.
The reasons to be shy about my writing have been myriad: obviously the content leans towards significant taboos that are deeply frowned upon yet remain somewhat wildly popular. Given the SOL scare back in March of this year, it's clear that payment processors are cracking down on grey area and pornographic fictional works, and weirdly, that put me in a little bit of a rebellious, "fuck it" space where I figured I'd better get my stuff out while the getting was good.
I want to really commend Lazeez for his maneuvering during that time as well as his commitment to his publishing stance, which was part of the reassurance I think I needed for taking the plunge. At this point I'm considering him something of a hero on the battlelines of cultural censorship and growing authoritarianism, and I think we should all be appreciative.
Like most new authors, now that I'm finally putting some work out there, I'm desperate for feedback and critique. The other part of overcoming my reluctance was giving myself space with a more absurd, balls-out, over-the-top, near-constant-sex stroke story, basically a playground for fantasies and pairings, and I want to reassure folks that I have intentions towards more measured works in the future if I continue to publish. But focusing on the sex and indulging in the wink-nudge-comedy of it all makes me feel like I have a lot more space for plot mistakes and first-author-fuckups.
Nonetheless I'm sure that results in more of a wank-and-move-on readership, which is fine, but if you are one of those erotica enjoyers who also enjoy validating the artists and encouraging the improvement of this somewhat dubiously valued niche, and because this does remain a bit more of a "playground" piece to explore and test, hit me up with any thoughts or concerns you might have about Ethan's Nieces. You never know, I might fold it into my final draftings. Thanks, friends!
Two chapters had some formatting errors for text chat bits, they should be fixed soon, thanks.
Edit: They are fixed, but it's been reported that the text-chat-box formatting feature here on SOL doesn't always show up (or comes up black) to certain ePub Readers. Not totally sure how to fix that. If enough people complain, I might pull that particular formatting out, though it's a great tool for showing phone conversations.
Hey folks. I’ve rewritten the first chapter of Ethan’s Nieces and cleaned up some of the story errors people have been nice enough to point out.
Once again, feedback is super helpful, I’m hoping to improve my ability as a writer and this story in particular is something of a playground premise for me to bounce ideas around with.
For now I’ve been trying to post a chapter a day, and the current rough draft has 13 chapters total. My hope is to have the completed story up by the second week of December.
