Interesting thing, getting to know your characters better. It can have a radical effect on things you'd previously written.
Case in point is chapter 12 and the introduction of Frannie. This was originally written with a slightly different interpretation of who Frannie is, and knowing this I went forwards in time to write a 'next time' chapter to get to know her better as my idea of who she was became more sophisticated.
So now I find when going back to chapter 12 that Frannie as written back than as a first draft is rather undercooked in terms of who I now know her to be.
The consequence of this is that Chapter 12 will be broken into two, or possibly three chapter-ettes as right now part 1 is clocking in at 30,000 words, part 2 at 13,500, and I still have a bunch of rewriting to do before I'm and the proof'n'publish stage. This will only increase the word count as I get more into the emotional impact of what happens.
Meantime all I can say is that it won't be too long, and when this 'chapter' begins to drop, so too does the increase in the pace of adventures of Jim and Lia.

A little shorter this time, some jokes, some foreshadowing for future developments, and something to tide things over as I knuckle down with the next installment which is probably going to be broken in half as it's a monster.

Queued up and waiting to publish, chapter 10 of Lia's and Jim's adventures sees them get a little more into the photo shoots, and includes three of the five food groups, or that's what Lia claimed.
Still tidying up things a little in terms of re-arranging chapter sequencing for better progression, I got into drafting a chapter today for a little way ahead. I went in with some very definite ideas where I was supposed to be taking things, a stepping stone from one story moment to the next.
My subconscious, however, had some other ideas, blindsiding me with a couple of character steps I had not planned for, one of which so affected me that I had to step away from the keyboard for a while.
Damn Lia is deeper and more complex than I ever imagined her to be. Forget Jim, it seems like I'm in for a hell of a ride as this story continues.

For those wondering when and what comes next, I've been busy reviewing forthcoming chapters, writing new chapters, and rearranging the order of things a little to make certain developments flow at a slightly more measured pace.
I should be done with this process by the end of the week, whereafter I get working on final edits for the next chapter.
