Partial recovery

With a lot of effort, I managed to recover 14,000 words of Elcano 2. So, the task of continuing will be a lot easier than I had feared. However, this has set back my plans to continue publication of Elcano 2 as soon as the last chapter of Elcano 1 had been posted.

But, it will be published in due course.

Disaster

I had written about 30% of the second Elcano book. This contained facts about the preparation of the Magellan voyage, arrival in Brazil, and the winter mutiny in a port in what is now Argentina and also fictional involvement of Elcano.

20,000 words saved on the external hard drive that I thought was safer than saving on my laptop's hard drive ( I once lost a large time-sensitive document saved on my hard drive when my laptop crashed).

And 20,000 words vanished when that external hard drive went screwy! All other files saved on that external drive are ok - but Elcano 2 now appears as a single blank page.

So, now I'll have to try to recreate the story which means that those readers who have been following Elcano Book 1 will now have to wait much longer than expected for Book 2. But I am determined to write it again and publish it when it's ready.

Early posting of Elcano

I will be offline until the end of August, so I have posted chapter 15 early.

Don't forget, the full book (23 chapters) is available on zbookstore.

Comments welcome

I'm interested to know what readers think of the Elcano story. So, comments on the story are welcome on the page or in a message to me. This fictional account of Elcano's life before the circumnavigation of the world is planned to be book 1, with the actual voyage as book 2. Also, if there is interest, I will publish my translation of Antonio Pigafetta's account of the circumnavigation.

I'm hoping to publish all on Bookapy and other self-publishing sites when completed. Book 1 should have about 50,000 words before I put it on Bookapy (currently on 40,000 words).
