Happy February, everybody! I hope you're all doing well and 2021 is treating you right.
Where I live, things have just started to warm up after a frigid cold spell. That's something to be grateful for! I guess the groundhog saw its shadow on the 2nd? (I didn't really pay attention this year.)
So, for those of you who know and enjoy my style and typical writing themes, I am requesting help. I have wanted very much to add to my works published here on Stories Online, but have been experiencing for the past month a bad spell of writer's block, which I'm sure every author knows and dreads as I do. The creative mind is a strange and tangled one, and I think at the moment I just need something to intrigue me to get the words really flowing.
My challenge and request of you, dear readers, is to offer up any prompts and ideas you might have for me, provided that they would seem to be in my niche of writing. I will give credit to whoever sent any submissions I choose to write, or anonymity, if the submitter so chooses. The prompts can be related to a story I've already written-an off-shoot, as I've done before; a scene or one-shot I could add to Erotic Snippets. (If I decide such a scene would plausible between my characters-canon, of course.) A prompt could also be something entirely new that's up my alley, or seems like something I'd already write.
I'm sure every idea I receive would make a good story, but whether or not I'm the writer for the job I have yet to say. I'll give due warning that I'll only run with suggestions that seem interesting to me, but I value every idea put out there.
Thank you in advance, my wonderful readership. I appreciate you all very much, and I can honestly say your feedback, support, loyalty, and praise has really helped me grow significantly as a writer and in the genre of erotica since I joined this website many years ago. Happy reading, and I hope you see a new submission from me soon.
Michelangelo once said, when asked how he knew what he wanted to carve into marble, that he wasn't the one who decided what to put in it--the statue was already there, inside it. The marble only told him what figure awaited inside the block, and it was his job simply to release it, not to create it.
Now, many of you authors out there might have experienced this feeling. For those of you who do not write, let me just tell you this: more often than not, an author is not a person who creates a story. An author is a person who gets a sudden, vivid picture of an already formed story and simply has to put it down so others can enjoy it. You might not like your characters, or what they do, or even the plot--but the story isn't yours, and you're not in control of it. You simply have the responsibility to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard). It can be both an incredibly frustrating but also incredibly rewarding responsibility. Most of the stories that hit me square in the soul like that are ones I love, but it's not just those ones which I must be compelled to share, but also the ones I am not so fond of.
So, writers--have you ever had a story do that to you? Was it one you liked or one you didn't?
Today I did something I have not done before. I posted an erotic story with a seasonal theme (New Year's, in his case). Why have I never done this before?
Well, long story short, it usually doesn't fit where my writer's brain wants to take me. This brain of mine literally has a mind of its own when I'm tapping out on the keys, and things take unexpected turns. However, this time, it struck me like a bolt of lightning that this story was perfect. It was one of those stories that comes to you fully formed, and I had to put it down right away before it grew legs and ran away from my psyche.
The story is entitled, 'Since Last Year,' and is set on the morning of New Year's Day. Young Jade skips downstairs to go wake her boyfriend up, who simultaneously wanted to drink for New Year's and spend time with her the night before, and so stayed over the night to be safe. She kisses him, and although she worries about getting caught, eventually agrees to, ah...sheath his sword. Repeatedly. Meanwhile, her brother's savvy friend convinces him they should covertly watch, and the younger boys all wish they had girlfriends at the end of the episode.
This story came totally out of the blue. I had been considering writing a Christmas story inspired by the Pogues' song, 'Fairytale of New York,' and getting into detail about really happened (which would, admittedly, have a very gradual plot and not much humping in the first few chapters) but decided against it for this year at least due to the holidays being crazy this year.
Those of you who read my work, please let me know what you think of 'Since Last Year,' and whether or not I should write more 'themed,' stories. What in the story got you hot? I prefer to up the quality of my work based on those who enjoy it, so don't hesitate to tell me what went right! Do consider I write stories that turn me on (advice from a writing friend of mine), so I know they're not total flops.
Cheers, Everybody, and Happy New Year!
I received a question regarding my new story ('What I Learnt From (Mostly) Accidental Voyeurism') and I wasn't sure where to answer it since the questioner didn't appear to have an author account. To solve this problem, I'll answer any questions involving WILFMAV here. As a result, there may be spoilers in this entry...you have been warned!
ChuckB said, 'What was Rosalie thinking and doing as she watched "Uncle" Kyron and mum making love? A bit disappointing that her experience was ignored.'
For those of you who wonder the same thing and don't want spoilers, I advise you to continue reading, because that will be explained! Turn back now!
For those of you curious and impatient, here is my explanation.
Rosalie is, ultimately, rather taken off-guard at the scene in front of her, and primarily shocked. About halfway through she becomes sympathetic to their plight, and afterwards, reliving it in her head, she becomes aroused by it--hence, the brief bit in the bathtub where she masturbates. Subsequent voyeuristic experiences are more involved--she becomes aroused more quickly since the shock-factor is low to none, and takes advantage of that.
Generally, I don't like to write stories where people are unfaithful to one another. This is because I don't agree with it, but...
My latest story, 'What I Learnt from (Mostly) Accidental Voyeurism,' focusses on the narrator's mother, Julianne, who is married but has a long-standing and generally secret relationship with an old friend of hers, Kyron, whom her children have grown up knowing as "Uncle.' Their relationship has been on pause in the romantic sense for a very long time. However, when the play button is inadvertently pressed again, the two find themselves in a very difficult situation. Julianne thinks they should put that part of their relationship behind them again, that it would be the right thing to do, but neither of them seems to have the strength to do that any longer.
So--why have I written a story so different from my usual style and mindset?
Well, I like to think of it as an alternative to 'Happily Ever After.' We're all only human, and sometimes the enormity of the mistakes we make--in this case, Julianne deciding to marry her husband despite the fact that she was deeply in love with Kyron--take a while to sink in.
This story might have been irrelevant if Julianne and Kyron hadn't had made the decisions they did. They might have been lifelong friends anyway, and only that. But they did make them, and so now, they have to figure out where and how they can exist. I'm sure some of you have been there.
These things happen. Humanity has a remarkable lack of foresight sometimes.
