I have a number of stories in the works at different stages. I'm going to list some of them to try to put myself on notice a bit. I've found myself so busy this year that I've hardly taken any vacation time and was informed I have to take two weeks before the end of the year or lose it so I'm taking a healthy chunk of time this month and hoping to make substantial progress on some of these.
Project 1) A roughly 12 chapter modern southern gothic noir. It is technically contemporary fantasy but the magic is very low key, blink and you miss it type of thing. The main character is actually the protagonist of other stories I have done but never wanted to put into the world until this introductory story of his was finished.
Project 2) A story set in New York mid-diaspora. It was started as a line popped in my head one day as I doing chores. "The worst thing about living in New York City is how empty and quiet it is." I have the major bits figured out, I just need to write the bloody thing. Science fiction.
Project 3) A what if science fiction story set in the far future, actually set in the same universe as #2 but the stories are completely independent and a thousand years apart. It started as thinking about what might happen if data archaeology became a profession one day.
Project 4) A three story arc the first one of which is called Professor Geist Vs. The Saturnian Stormcrows. The very pulpish story title is not indicative of the story's content but a pulp story of that title is central to the plot. Science fiction again.
Project 5) TPK. A fantasy story inspired by a mental exercise of "what if I wrote a story of the people went into a fantasy land and became heroes" genre. It doesn't go well for them. This one is probably horror as well.
Listing these out I really feel like a flake but I'm going to work through them. The first one I'm going to try to get at least mostly done before I start posting chapters.
