Chapter 20

Tom is proving to be my most popular character by far so I thought I'd give readers a little of the backstory on how he came to be. I've been a fan of Maine Coon Cats since back in the 90's when I met a fellow artist in NY city who had a loft in what was then a really seedy part of Soho. He introduced me to his huge male Maine Coon as his 'watch cat'. I didn't get it as this cat was a giant gentle floof monster who acted more like a dog than a cat and always wanted to talk. He seemed to be quite certain that we humans perfectly understood his chirps, huffs and meows. I finally had to ask why his cat was a 'watch cat' and he showed me a black stocking cap that his cat always carried around. Apparently, someone had once broken into his loft from one of the upper floor windows. We'll never know the whole story, but he said it looked like the cat jumped on the intruder from his favorite perch on top of the kitchen cabinets. When my friend returned home, nothing had been disturbed but there was blood everywhere and shredded bits of denim jeans on the floor. He said there was even a bloody handprint near the upper floor window where apparently the intruder had climbed back out the window. Probably because the cat wouldn't let him use the front door. There was also a partially shredded stocking cap that the cat wouldn't let anybody else touch. I wish I could remember the watch kitties name, but I thought that Tom would be sufficient.

Chapter 19

This was another chapter that was really fun to write. As someone who has personally heard a Scotsman curse, I can vouch that it's a truly fine art among them. I was going to provide a glossary but decided to the leave it up to the readers to decipher. I wouldn't want to deprive anyone of the fun you get by googling some of the terms that Tom uses.Chapter 18
