A reader kindly pointed out a sentence that said exactly the opposite of what I apparently intended to say. I've corrected the error, and all I can say is it sounded right when I wrote it.
Thank you for reading and for noticing and letting me know.

The last installment of Promise posted today. Things worked out about the way they should have, in my view, but you'll be the judge.
I'll prepare a print edition and make a PDF file available, but it's going to take a while. Also an epub edition, eventually. There wlll be some minor tweaks and corrections, but it'll still be the same story as posted here, and the posted story will remain on SOL.
Best wishes,
bb
Switching back and forth between Word and a text editor results in some very odd variations on accents, among other markings. For example, I have no idea what an Italian "charg' " is. It's chargé, as in chargé d'affaires.
My apologies for the distractions, and with any luck at all they'll be gone, or close to it, in future chapters.
Cheers,
bb
I've queued the first four chapters of Promise for posting. The story is complete and will post over the next few days in about six segments. Heads up: there's some MM, oral, here and there; I'll mark the chapters as needed.
I posted one chapter earlier as a stand-alone story, The Rain Festival in Pre-Conquest America. The chapter as it will appear now has a few tweaks, nothing major. It will be up to the site managers whether they wish to leave the stand-alone story up after Promise finishes posting.
Best wishes,
bb
I've added "Plucking Debbie" to the Spring Break in Napa collection, available in PDF format on Google Drive here. It's a free download, no registration or sign-in required. It has a couple of tweaks but otherwise is the same story as posted here and that will remain here.
