Several readers have let me know their displeasure at being dumped just as the story appeared to be taking off.
Perhaps I will be able to come up with an alternate ending for the alternate reality.
Stay tuned.
My apologies to those readers who felt shortchanged by another of my experimental essays. I do this for fun, so I switch around a lot. I have no illusions about my writing abilities in comparison with some of the really talented contributors, but I enjoy trying different styles and appreciate all the feedback I have been receiving, even when it is less than complimentary. I will try to learn from it.
After a short sabbatical of only thirteen years, Chapter 2 of "Barbara and her Daddy" has been posted. Even those who enjoyed Chapter 1 may want to start over.
Thank you, readers, for approving of my silly little experiment with presentation. I wanted to try to emulate a radio script with this story, allowing the reader to provide the supporting detail in his overactive mind. I'm sure your collective imaginations are more fertile than mine.
Your response in terms of downloads has been overwhelming.
Your comments have been largely accepting, with only one person chiding me. I may not use the format again, but it has certainly been fun so far. I am writing one day ahead, so there will be at least eight chapters. If the characters continue leading me, who knows where it can go?
So far, all comments received have been favorable. Not having to bother with quotation marks or descriptive settings has made it a lot easier to write and it appears that this doesn't put you off, so I will continue.
Think of it as a radio script. Wouldn't it be fun to make an audio book?
Over three fourths of you have given the story a rating of 7 or above, yet the reported score remains near 6 because of a few boo-birds who take advantage of the scoring algorithm to cause it to report an unrealistically low score. Since over 5000 of you have downloaded in the first two days, apparently the low reported score is not such a big deal.
Thanks for reading. If there are any volunteers for the audio book, pick a character and send me a wav file. I will edit them together when all roles are filled.
