Last night I had a vivid dream which I actually remembered. It was a complete short story, but it will take me away from my current story which is at page 85 with 4 more big scenes/focal points. Do I spend the day or rest of the week writing "Night of the Wolf" (working title) which has little or no sex or keep chugging away at my current story which has lots of sex (3 small group scenes and a threesome)?
Do other writers get vivid dreams or is it part of my bipolar disorder?
I could easily post my first story and start breaking my current story into the inevitable chapters and start posting it, but I despise reading part of a story. It would have driven me insane had I lived in the late 1800s waiting on a wharf for the latest installment of A Christmas Carol or Oliver Twist. Even Frank Herbert I think first published "Dune" (my favourite book) in installments in a magazine. It is driving me crazy just waiting for the latest of the Dune Series, "Navigators of Dune" to be printed and I think Brian Herbert said on Facebook that it has been sent to the publishers. Even waiting for the Lord Of The Rings and Hobbit movies was painful.
As a kid I couldn't wait for Christmas, my favourite season, to take place and had my presents unwrapped in seconds. Stories for me are like Christmas presents or new blockbuster movies. You don't watch Star Wars up to the introduction of Luke Skywalker or watch or read Dune until Paul escapes to the Fremen after the Harkonen/Saudakar attack AND, then wait a week or month to watch the rest of the movie. Stories are too important to me to read a chapter or two. I REALLY TRIED to read only a chapter or two of some great stories here like "Prodigal" by Aroslav, but it drove me crazy, so I waited until I could read the entire story.
I'm sorry other authors here, but I REFUSE TO READ or RATE chapters or part of a non serialized story. I understand and often agree with the reasons for posting chapters of a story, but this odd reader goes crazy at only being permitted part of story to read. I'm a slow reader and it is not uncommon for me to spend 18 or 20 hours at a stretch reading a book or story from here; barely eating.
I WILL NEVER POST part of a story in chapter form. I will post parts of a trilogy weekly for 3 weeks though. It's only a pet peeve of mine and a quirk of mine. Back to page 85 of the part two of my trilogy and I might get back to "Night of the Wolf" and start writing it instead of a plot outline. Keep writing and reading.
That's it, the last of my writing experiment and a new learning experience. This was the inspiration for the largest story and only true trilogy I have ever conceived. Of the new trilogy, I have the first story done, but I'm plodding my way through part 2 and I have a rough idea for where part 3 will go.
Please give critiques or even harsh words regarding this last one or the 3 together. As long as you're honest, respectful and true it will help more than it will hurt. Humans learn and grow by trying, failing and trying again. I've already learned things from writing this and getting feedback which I am applying to other story Ideas in various states of being written. Hope you enjoyed it and possibly learned something also. Back to writing I go.
Part 2 of my Kill Switch writing experiment is up. This one has sex, a bit of morbid humour and a surprise ending. It is more upbeat too. I've been mildly manic, pouring out many story ideas and plot fragments while plodding through what I am calling my travelling Canada series, so it must be September. Chilly mornings, warm days and cold nights seems to stir creativity in me.
I came up with a new story idea I hope will turn into a story which has two characters I'm growing fond of as I flesh them out and a working title of "Food Awakening". That's the magical thing about having bipolar disorder. You can spew out many, many ideas and a few are really great. Half are simply okay and a quarter are garbage. Some I will go back to and finish off like "Kill Switch". I have a couple stories like that and the one with the most meat on it's bones I call "White Death" which only has a good full beginning. Back to writing.
You ever hear something in the news and think to yourself, "That would make a GREAT idea for a fictional story." ?
A year ago when ISIS was rampaging through Iraq they were taking captured American made military equipment. Somebody suggested that tanks, Humvees etc. should have a manually or remotely activated "Kill Switch" to disable them.
I decided to run with the idea and place a futuristic twist on a hostile landscape to tell this tale of survival. How would YOU react in a crisis? So many possibilities ran through my mind that I chose three scenarios/parallel universes to write about. The postscripts are slightly different and so are the endings.
I had these half written a year ago and finished them this week during a bout of writers block. Writers block was broken by the recipe "Bami Goreng" you'll have to look up or wait.
This series helped inspire a new true trilogy which I am currently 75% done part two of three parts. The currently Canadian Federal Election has made me distrustful of authoritarian governments as seen in the postscripts. I hope you enjoy the unexpected since these stories are full of surprises and twists. I hope you enjoy. It was a cute experiment I may try again depending upon your response and feedback.
Well, there it is "Missing a Native Woman's Tale" has been posted. Every time I read this story it disturbs me since I see my stories as if they were movies in my head. I could easily have made this more graphic and sadistic. I could have added so much more and given myself even more nightmares. I stopped writing one story due to the disturbing more graphic nature, but the characters seem more real with human failings and some are truly beyond contempt and worthy of the fate I will write for them.
This is merely the first of many first nations stories I hope to write of various genres and settings as a part of honouring some of my Blackfoot Indian heritage from my paternal great grandmother I barely knew. The plight of missing first nations people is important to me and many others. It needs to be front of many peoples minds and we must DEMAND ACTION from our leaders.
I simply took a slight detour to edit and add a paragraph or so to this story to fill in gaps in the story near the end. I continue to write part 2 of a trilogy and I am busy trying to connect and write parts of the story which will connect 4 focal points of part 2. When finished they will be the largest thing I have EVER written; 63 pages thus far. Still doing research and plodding on. Along the way I've learned there's a place near Rama Casino in Ontario, Canada where you can fly in a float plane to dinner and back for $190- $220 CDN. I also learned about wine varieties of Prince Edward County.
A nugget about "Missing a Native Woman's Tale" is that the gps co-ordinates are REAL, but takes you only to some farm fields near the town of Precious Corners, Ontario. My last car, a PT Cruiser blew a head gasket and died near there which upset me so I chose it for part of my story. The issue of missing first nations women in Canada is a very real and tragic story; my story is not.
