A New Book

Howdy, Hi and Hello!

I just thought I'd write a quick post to say that I am still alive and well; the rumors of my demise are exaggerated. I'm even writing -- always a good sign.

I'm currently working on a project that I've been adding details to for about a year or so now (background, plot, characters, etc.). I've mentioned it in a previous blog post; it's a (hopefully) epic fantasy story that I feel really good about -- it's a good story and tells a good tale. It's intended to be part 1 of a 4 part story sequence but it will definitely be able to stand alone (although, not all plot devices will be completely fulfilled because some of it sets up later sequences in the story).

I've received some mail about Marc Bruester's story (Not Enough) and when I'm going to finish another segment of that story. I can only say that it's going to be a while; I'm completely committed to this fantasy story right now (to the point I've actually got editors going through my muddled prose). I'll likely turn back to Marc's story after that (well, I *may* post another little tale I've got that is another of those 'part 1' of a story sequence -- but I've had that one mostly finished for about a year now...and I just keep adding more to it when the mood strikes me...).

What might not be completely obvious is that Marc's is a very difficult story for me to tell. He's a character that I like -- but he's very unlike 'me' and I find that I have to be in a particular place mentally to really get into his head. I have to have a certain amount of anger and frustration to bring him to life and I'm just not there yet. [Side note but true story: I literally POUNDED my keyboard on some facets of his story -- to the point that I had to buy a new keyboard when it was over because I broke a few keys!]

I've also decided that I'm not going to post a story until it is completely done. I'm not certain when my current fantasy story will get posted -- but it definitely won't be before late June and might not actually get in until August or September some time.

So, I hope that you all will have patience with me.

Thank you,
Kenn

Looking For A Volunteer Editor

In my infinite wisdom (yes, strong sarcasm there) I've begun working on the first of four parts of (what I hope will be) an epic fantasy story. I'm looking for an experienced editor to help me with grammar, punctuation and story continuity -- basically, someone who can read over chapters and scream at me about how poorly I write, make corrections and strongly suggest I give up my dream of being a writer and dedicate myself to my underwater basket-weaving passion.

I have 'living documents' with notes on background and characters and I've outlined 25 chapters though I may end up with more as things go on. The story is currently planned to include mf mF ff Ff most of which will be of an incestuous nature (depending on how you look at things, maybe bro sis mom grandmom cousin aunt); there is going to be violence in the story though I currently have no plans to have violent sex in the story. I also have no plans to include BDSM, blackmail, bondage, any male on male (which is *MY* squick), beast, and so on though I can't absolutely promise against it if the story should lead me there.

If you have a good grasp of English (grammar, sentence structure, spelling) and are interested please e-mail me at kenn_ghannon at hot mail dot com.

I've been suffering from writer's block. I've started part 2 of Marc Breuster's story (which will be 3 or 4 parts long) but got stuck writing and re-writing the first chapter. Nothing I do feels right to me.

So, I started working on other stories, particularly all of the background I need for a new "series" I'm putting together that is my most ambitious to date; seriously, the background and data for the characters has taken me most of 6 months to piece together (the series will run through 4 years, though I'm stuck on my carrot for year 3...sigh...).

My daughter actually sparked the thought that became Beautiful. I don't want to give much of the story away, but she's just starting to study elementary school biology and...well, you'll have to read it to find out more.

I know many were hoping for the next story in Marc Breuster's life but it's not ready yet. :)

This story just came to me as I was lying in bed this morning and, after thinking about it, I decided to type it up and see if I felt like posting it. (Yes, I actually started and finished a story in less than four hours, a new record for me!!)

Strangely, I start a lot of stories -- some longer than others -- but I don't always finish them. I can't count the number of stories I've begun but cast aside because they just didn't amuse me anymore. This one was short and...well...not sweet, but...

Anyway, there are a few stories that I know I will eventually finish. Stories like "Obedience", the first story in the "Rings" universe which I'll finish someday just because I've worked on it for so many years or "The Mirror Darkley", the first story in the "Mirrors" universe, that has been bubbling up in my head quite a bit in the past year. Actually, those two stories are kind of prime examples of the dichotomy of my work. "Obedience" (which currently has 10 chapters finished, another almost finished, and three or four more in my head) started four years ago or so as an idea and I just free-formed the writing, letting the story come to me and spitting it out whenever a new idea struck (sometimes with months between the chapters), then re-reading it for edit and polish and so on. "The Mirror Darkley" is something altogether different; I've not written a single word but I've been "story-boarding" the entire thing out with detailed notes on the characters, their desires, motivations and so forth, timelines, plot points and so on. Yet, despite their differences, I absolutely know I'll finish both of them because...well...I really, really LIKE them.

Anyway, thank you for reading and may you and yours have a wonderful holiday.

So, there I am, minding my own business, when a top priority case lands on my desk. Now, mind you, I work for a computer hardware company doing technical repairs so most of my work is at my desk...and it looks like it. THIS customer, however, is one of our top 10 clients -- the one who spends hundreds of millions of dollars buying our products and services...and they've got a problem with some of our hardware.

So, here I am, on the opposite coast from my home, on what my boss assured me would only be a 2 day job, 3 at most...and 4 days later I'm stuck here at least until late Saturday night (if FedEx comes through with our new hardware and I can install it all in one day) or at least Tuesday if I don't get the hardware until Monday.

Needless to say, the posting of the story is going to be delayed (No, I don't carry my stories with my on business trips -- that's all I need for headquarters to find on my work laptop!). I'm not sure when...Sunday if the hardware comes in (and I manage a seam-free installation -- not much chance of that) or Wednesday or later if all hades breaks loose...

Sorry!
