I know many were hoping for the next story in Marc Breuster's life but it's not ready yet. :)

This story just came to me as I was lying in bed this morning and, after thinking about it, I decided to type it up and see if I felt like posting it. (Yes, I actually started and finished a story in less than four hours, a new record for me!!)

Strangely, I start a lot of stories -- some longer than others -- but I don't always finish them. I can't count the number of stories I've begun but cast aside because they just didn't amuse me anymore. This one was short and...well...not sweet, but...

Anyway, there are a few stories that I know I will eventually finish. Stories like "Obedience", the first story in the "Rings" universe which I'll finish someday just because I've worked on it for so many years or "The Mirror Darkley", the first story in the "Mirrors" universe, that has been bubbling up in my head quite a bit in the past year. Actually, those two stories are kind of prime examples of the dichotomy of my work. "Obedience" (which currently has 10 chapters finished, another almost finished, and three or four more in my head) started four years ago or so as an idea and I just free-formed the writing, letting the story come to me and spitting it out whenever a new idea struck (sometimes with months between the chapters), then re-reading it for edit and polish and so on. "The Mirror Darkley" is something altogether different; I've not written a single word but I've been "story-boarding" the entire thing out with detailed notes on the characters, their desires, motivations and so forth, timelines, plot points and so on. Yet, despite their differences, I absolutely know I'll finish both of them because...well...I really, really LIKE them.

Anyway, thank you for reading and may you and yours have a wonderful holiday.

Best Laid Plans

So, there I am, minding my own business, when a top priority case lands on my desk. Now, mind you, I work for a computer hardware company doing technical repairs so most of my work is at my desk...and it looks like it. THIS customer, however, is one of our top 10 clients -- the one who spends hundreds of millions of dollars buying our products and services...and they've got a problem with some of our hardware.

So, here I am, on the opposite coast from my home, on what my boss assured me would only be a 2 day job, 3 at most...and 4 days later I'm stuck here at least until late Saturday night (if FedEx comes through with our new hardware and I can install it all in one day) or at least Tuesday if I don't get the hardware until Monday.

Needless to say, the posting of the story is going to be delayed (No, I don't carry my stories with my on business trips -- that's all I need for headquarters to find on my work laptop!). I'm not sure when...Sunday if the hardware comes in (and I manage a seam-free installation -- not much chance of that) or Wednesday or later if all hades breaks loose...

Sorry!

Not Enough is...Not Enough

So, we are quickly reaching the end of "Not Enough". However, you'll notice that I've introduced some intrigue (in the form of Anderson) and there's more coming...more than what will be conveniently concluded in this particular story.

That's okay, though, because -- in due time -- I have tentative plans to do 3 more stories centering around Marc Breuster. (I will admit that the last story is kind of on thin ice; I'm not sure if it's necessary and I don't want to do an unnecessary story).

Anyway, thank you for reading! I hope to have the the final chapter of "Not Enough" ready by the end of this "short week" (it's Halloween and I have 4 kids...I'm gonna be busy!)

Oh, no...it's gonna be late...

I sincerely apologize.

I've been on call at work the past two weeks and have been slammed -- I haven't had a chance to do any editing on the remaining two chapters (that, thankfully, are written -- they just need to be polished) so...I'm going to miss this week's deadline.

I will have time this weekend for this, however, and promise I will have this week's chapter up on SUNDAY evening with the final chapter (in this story) up on Friday of next week.

Let the hate mail commence... :)

I Never Knew

I never knew this existed, so...I never used it. I'll try to keep blog entries brief.

I'm working on the conclusion of "Not Enough"...the chaptered story that wasn't meant to be. At this point I've written the next chapter (though not edited, I'll do that later tonight or tomorrow) and have outlined the last two chapters (which might turn into 3, depending). This won't be the end of "Reflections", however. I've got ideas for three more stories surrounding Marc. I'm just going to wait until they're fully written -- and complete -- before posting them.

In the meantime, I've also been working on a little mind-control (is that Science Fiction or Fantasy as well, since I don't believe mind-control really exists?) story that will start a new universe called (tentatively) "Rings". This first story (which, I should add, is nearly complete, though desperately needs to be edited) will be slightly lacking in terms of a "quest" per se though there is conflict woven through the story. The next sequence/book/s/etc. will actually pull all of that together -- and have a quest while keeping the character true to what he's doing in the first sequence/book/s/etc.

"Rings" has actually been festering for nearly 2 years now; I started writing it, stopped, came back to it, stopped, etc. during that time. It's one of the few "unfinished" stories I've been able to come back to and still understand the motivations and points-of-view of the characters.

Anyway, that's my update for now. I need to get back to writing...
