Hi,
I'm still working on my second story. So much to learn!
Current progress is 100k words and about a third of the story completed. These first chapters will be expanded on to include what I have learnt so far. Still a year or more to even think about finishing the first draft ready for a real editing. I've had a few people give me feedback on my very rough draft of the first few chapters - my thanks and appreciation for their time and thoughtful comments and insights!
For those interested, the story is a mix of coming of age, sci-fi and action/adventure with humour and weird aliens all over the place. It tries to be semi-believable in a scientific sense. Inspired by Acending-Author, and Wizard; I know, an unlikely mix of authors!
My next story, if given enough positive feedback and a new laptop, will be quite different, being a coming of age scifi story. A little bit like Ascending Author's story on this site "Deja Vu", from a scientific twist point of view, but not so anti-governmental/political corruption or so violent. Or anywhere near as long! Though I loved a lot of the ideas explored in his story ... I can only hope to be half as creative on the scientific side let alone the social and relationship aspects he used to enhance his story's appeal.
I would love to have a female hero in my next story, but still don't know how females think. Though thinking about it, I'm getting some ideas. Lol. A female hero would help address this imbalance in the stories on SOL. Any help on this topic would be appreciated!
Well I've finally written a story. I did not get it fully edited as it was a spur of the moment decision to write a story for the Christmas competition. Life gets in the way of writing, so I didn't fully explore the story idea that came to me out of the blue. It was always meant to be just a short humourous story. It is an amazing experience writing your first story. Many thanks to the editors who helped me beat it into a more grammatically and punctually correct and succinct story. They did not get to finish editing due to my lack of time to fix it before the cutoff date for the competition.
I've used it to gain some skills in the art of writing as I've had an idea for a sci-fi story for some time. I think I can now do it justice. Knowing that there are excellent editors out there willing to help budding authors is inspiring.
