JAX: Stories

I stared into the mirror and inspected my reflection. I couldn't see it myself but I obviously had something. There were wrinkles around my eyes while my hair was receding. My body showed the signs of being at leased two stone over weight and I would never see 39 again.

I've never been in the back seat of my car until now and I would never have gone there with these two guys anyway.

The door banged behind me and I face into the room that was going to be my home for the next two years. 10x6 feet with two bunks and a bucket for sloops. I wasn't alone however, on one of the bunks was a middle-aged man reading his paper. He didn't acknowledge me though, which didn't bode well. But then after a few minute he put down his paper and looked at me.

Many years ago my then girlfriend and I were on holiday together in a Spanish beach resort. It was a fortnight of sun, sea and sex. Things had been a little rocky between us for some time and I thought perhaps a couple of weeks away together might help.

It can be a double edge sword being married to a beautiful woman. How does that song go: 'When you are in love with a beautiful woman, it's hard.' Well it's hard in all senses of the word.

I was very afraid during those first few days, but when nothing happened I thought that perhaps things would be all right and I started to relax. Oh I knew those pictures were out there but as long as they didn't surface it was ok, well not ok really, but bearable.
