A New Way of Life
Chapter 10

During the next few months, every night or two I was translated to a new time. Sometimes a few years, sometimes a few centuries. Occasionally a few thousand years. It seems Tiger was trying to keep the legend going and allow me to follow what was happening with the progress, making the occasional remark or suggestion.

The amount of changes was phenomenal. They took the basic concepts and ideas and extrapolated them to a sophisticated technology base integrating aspects of all 3 base esoterics. The simple pellet gun I developed turned into a range of automatic weapons, with various types of ammunition and destructiveness. The massaged the power driver glove into a field effect armour, capably of stopping most physical or energy weapons.

The couple of times they tried for an esoterically based attack, I was able to stop them. The Guards Swords and other man-powered weapons were okay, but I knew that to go to a fully esoteric attack stance would bring much worse than the Coalition on them. Much worse, and much more than they could handle.

I had been noticing as I skipped through time that The Lokhoni always knew when and where I would arrive and she would be waiting. Always with "new blood" for me. I also noticed that this once human world was now effectively "elf breed". The humans seemingly bred out of existence The Elf breed seemed to out breed the humans and when crossed, were dominant.

This caused a minor civil war years ago, but it now wasn't an issue. No humans, no issue. The Lokhoni line seemed to be the strongest and purest, probably because they get breeding back to the source. Hell, I was 18 now and couldn't really complain.

With the last jump, I realised I was getting closer to my own time, and closer to the Coalition attack. I also felt that this was my last jump, and may last a while. When I stepped out of the room I arrived in, I let The Lokhoni know she needed to call the elders for a conference. Leaving the hut, and it was always a hut, regardless of what was outside, I saw that the damned statue was still there. Oh well. Maybe the Coalition would destroy it.

Wandering around I noticed the changes from last time. Esoteric technology was fully integrated into the world and people. A lot were empowered, maybe as many as ten percent. That's a lot of people to be able to make changes to the technology. Transportation was by levitating sled at ground level to air craft that slipped silently through the air. I noticed that they had managed to get a teleporting portal to function, this was a major breakthrough, one we had worked on for many visits. On a closer look I realised it wasn't teleportation that it used, but a method of transport through a prime energy, single dimensional plane. That was a major sophistication. It was also a very potent weapon if they realised it.

Every now and then there were people who disagreed with the direction the world was taking. Essentially we had put the world on a war footing, a many thousand year war footing. Subtly guided by the council of elders and myself, with help from the Last Arch Warlock, we had placed the world in a position to be able to defend itself when it was attacked.

As I walked to the Council chambers to meet the elders. I felt three fast impacts against my shields, some one had tried to shoot me. First with a conventional pellet gun, then one that teleported the slug in, then one that translated the slug in. Fortunately my shields were strong enough to handle this. I scanned for the shooters, but couldn't detect them. The last two could have been anywhere, they would just need a spotter to see where I was, the first could have been kilometres away with the range and accuracy of the new guns.

I translated myself to the council chambers and felt the shields of the place fold around me. Much better. I walked over to my sign in book, got the date from the calendar and signed in. I rarely signed out but at least they knew when I arrived by their time. The calendar had changed after I first arrived. It was now based on the day of my arrival. Tiresome.
