Nathan Blake woke up with a strange sensation. Something just wasn't right. Then it came to him; there was someone in his bed, sleeping beside him. Memories of last night started to fly through his head as he laid as still as he could, not wanting to wake the sleeping beauty-and she really was a beauty. Last night he could most certainly tell that she had a crush on him. However, for the life of him, he couldn't figure out why she would want to go out with someone like him.

No. The term "Go out with" didn't really apply to them, at least according to her; and what she had told him felt right and made sense. She called it a Pack mentality. Since he was stronger, he was the dominate leader.

Last night she told him a lot about what it would mean to be a Psionic Feral. However, if he were Normal, not much of it would make sense. She said that the Pack leader's primary concern was his pack and his territory. The way she was talking was making them out to be nothing more than animals, and that sort of made him a bit afraid with what she was telling him.

This was when she quickly assured him that they were not animals; they just had more instincts than most Psionics. They could indulge themselves in the instincts, or they could meet them half way and be almost normal, but just "holding back the beast" as she called it. She completely assured him that they could live normal lives. However, she told him never ignore his instincts; bad things could happen if he did that. She wouldn't elaborate on that, though.

Nathan was brought out of his musings by a stirring in his arms. The blonde haired head that was lying on his chest lifted up and looked into his eyes. For a moment, it looked like she thought he might be mad that they had shared the same bed. However, when she saw his smile, she gave him one of her own.

"How'd you sleep?" she asked with a yawn.

"Best sleep I've had in years."

"Then maybe we should do this again sometimes."

She swore the boy almost looked shy when he spoke. "That would be great. That is, if you don't mind?"

"Are you kidding? That was the best sleep I have gotten in ages, too," she replied with a sheepish smile. "Well, what are you doing today? We have the day off and everything."

"What were your plans?"

"I was actually going to the library and see if I couldn't get a head start on the basic classes. Even though I'm pretty sure I can pass them, I want to be sure." This was all said in a matter of fact tone.

"You know, maybe I should do that."

"No, you don't need to. Didn't you see that stack of books over by your computer? Mrs. Walker left a note with it. Well, I got to go; I promised a friend of mine I'd meet her. I'll, see you later, Nathan."

Nathan walked over to the desk feeling a little irritated. Sara knew damn well that he didn't like charity and she went out and bought him what looked to be a top of the line laptop. However, there was a note on top of it. Even though he was angry about such an expensive gift, he still picked up the letter and started to read it.

Dear Nathan,

We couldn't help but notice that you are very fond of your computer that you now have. However, we couldn't help but notice that it was two years out of date. Since we know how much you like computers, we bought you this one as a spare. I will admit that we do not know that much about computers, but the man that built it said it would suit you fine. He told us it was a 3GHz, with a 40-gigabyte hard drive and 128 Megs of RAM, what ever that means. We just hope that you like it.

If I know you, any by now you are probably a little irritated at us right now. However, before you get mad, I want you to think of something. My husband (your Godfather) and I have not been able to buy you anything for ten years. So please indulge us in this, because it will surely make us feel better. If it makes you feel better, you can pay us back by trying your best to be the best student in this school.

Speaking of which, the computer and software were from me. The books, on the other hand are from my husband. There are three of them. One is for Telepathy. The second is for Telekinesis and the third is for pyrotechnics. We expect you to learn these things and be ahead of the class when they do start. After all, you have to hold up the honor of your Godmother! (Haha). Just kidding

Nevertheless, I do expect you to study hard.

With love,

Sara and Clyde

P.S.

Clyde wishes to get to know his Godson better, and has decided that you and he should go shopping for some new clothes so he can spend more time with you-he'll pick you up at 10 AM. He is regretful that he missed picking you up, but there was urgent business. By the way, the shopping idea was mine. Clyde hates shopping.

Have fun. :-)

Nathan had to chuckle at his Godmother's antics. He knew he should be mad over such an expensive gift, but he just couldn't bring himself to stay angry. However, he did have plans for revenge. Maybe I'll just buy her a Porsche and see how she likes that. He laughed as he could imagine the look on her face if he did that.

Nathan looked at the books on the table. What many people didn't know was that Nathan had an eidetic memory and a speed reading ability that he had seen no one be able to match. He knew he could read everyone of those books inside thirty minutes and it would be just like storing data on a hard drive, he would remember it so well.

However, there was a problem with that. For example, if he read a Martial Arts books from front to back, he would most certainly not be a master at the subject, because he wouldn't have the reflexes to go with it. Nathan had a feeling that the same thing went along with Telepathy, Telekinesis and Pyrokinetics (the ability to set things on fire).

However, there was no time like the future to sit down and totally memorize the theory behind the skills. It would make practicing much easier. Nathan decided that he should start out with something that he could practice in his room. Telekinesis.

He finished the book in twelve minutes.

Pyrokinetics was next on the list and he finished that in ten minutes flat. He never would have thought that so much thought had to go into setting things on fire. A person had to sense the fiber of whatever they wanted to set on fire, whether it is cloth, metal or flesh-or any other material. It was a very complicated subject. The book itself was well over eight hundred pages long. It even included pages on meditation to prepare one's self. However, Nathan did read every bit of it.

The last book was the hugest. It was called "The Intricacies of Telepathy" by Clyde Walker. Therefore, Mr. Walker wrote this. Would he get mad if I memorized it in mere minutes and knew everything he wrote down it? Nathan asked himself.

If there was one thing that Nathan hated, it was harmful lies. However, reading this book and then learning from Mr. Walker without him knowing it didn't seem too bad. It would just make him look like he studied a little more than usual. Besides, he doubted that Mr. Walker would be upset anyway if he found out that he memorized the book. Nathan thought he knew this for a fact because of a tried and true fact. Experience was the best teacher.

Therefore, even if he knew everything in these books, he still didn't know shit.

To hell with it, let's see what you have written Mr. Walker.

That was when he opened the book and started reading at a very alarming rate. The book was amazing, in Nathan's opinion. Mr. Walker was a brilliant writer. It covered everything. For instance, how to manipulate someone into doing something and making him or her think it was their own idea all along, doing this subtly. Then there was the fact, the very dangerous fact, that a powerful Psionic could totally rip out someone's personality and "create" one to their own liking.

The book definitely had the right title. "Intricacies" was a very adapt word when it came to this book. Nathan knew that the mind was complex, but he had absolutely no idea that it was that complex. Moreover, he didn't know if it made him a bad person to want to try some of these things right away. No, it's not wrong. The morals of this society, not to mention my own instinct, say so, he thought firmly. Not that I would want to hurt anyone with it, though...

There was also a passage in the book that caught his eye almost immediately. It said that there were certain receptors in the brain that most any Psionic could manipulate. It said that this was the easiest form of manipulation. You could make a person feel pain or pleasure. Nathan almost swore at himself for being so immature that he blushed when the book started to explain in detail the pleasure receptors. It explained there was a different method for each one. There was also a different technique for each pain receptor.

Nathan slammed the book shut about half way through. It wasn't because he wasn't interested-it was fascinating. The reason he slammed the book shut, he had already learned what he thought was really important at the moment. Moreover, if Mr. Walker was anything like what he thought he was, the man enjoyed teaching, so he didn't want to take that away from him.
