The baby-change cubicle Joey had shown me into was clean and spacious.

She turned, smiled and waved at them before making her way to the park entrance where she would get on the next bus into town. But before the bus arrived she got into a conversation with the passenger of a smart car that had pulled up at the bus stop.

A minute later there was no sign of either the car or Elaine.
