Abandoned stories to avoid

Lokii ๐Ÿšซ

Contrary to recommendation, I was thinking we need a list of stories to avoid because they have been abandoned for one reason or another. Several times now I have become engrossed in a story that I found to be really good only to find that the story was never finished and it has been years since the last installment. The most recent for me was the Defenceman series by coldcreek. I cannot think of others off the top of my head at the moment but I know there are more.
Not talking about single installments that didn't go anywhere, but nice involved stories that will pull you in and then leave you hanging. Thoughts?

Thoughts?

There are unfinished stories out there that are worth reading anyway. My $0.02

I don't understand what you want over and above the existing yellow 'incomplete and inactive' warning.

Lokii might be asking more for series where there are multiple stories that are complete, but either the series itself is incomplete (more stories were supposed to be coming but the author stopped writing for one reason or another so no more stories will be coming) or the last story in the series is incomplete (this is easier to catch since you can look at the series and see the yellow banner on the last story). It would be possible to start reading a series without realizing the series was incomplete.

The series that I thought of when I read this was My Journey by Xalir. There are 3 completed stories in the series, but the series is left incomplete due to the author no longer being with us. An incomplete book 4 was later posted by somebody with access to their account. Part 4 is not posted as part of the series and isn't marked as incomplete so somebody who hasn't read the story or the author's blog wouldn't know the series was unfinished and won't be.

I'm assuming it's things like this that Lokii as referring to.

You are correct. I am talking about multiple book series. One or two might be done and then it stops in the middle of three.
I have seen this multiple times. My example, the defenseman, has 2 complete books, if you did not know to go looking for the 2nd and third book before you started you are up for disappointment.

And it doesn't help that the author didn't create a series for the trio :-(

Svengali's Ghost's Beth stories. I was really enjoying them right up until just before the last bit posted, but it stopped abruptly. Other author's have come back for long hiatuses, but it's not the way to bet.

For me it is a dead tree series "The war against the Chtorr" by David Gerrold. He started the series in 1983 and the 3 books turned into 7, but only 4 were published, with the last in 1993. He says 5 and 6 are almost done, but we have been waiting 30 years so I don't think it will ever happen

Wow, I had thought 5 and 6 were actually published, but WP says I am wrong. I know #5 actually was scheduled on Kindle at some point.
