Colour Coded Homepage Headers

I was wondering what the general concensus was about colour coding the home page headers. I'm talking about New Story, Serial Update, Story Review, Author Blog, etc having different coloured fonts/header backgrounds or something? I'm not talking about garish colours, just something to identify different update types?

I guess I'm old fashioned. I try different techniques, but in the end, text is text. You can dress it up however you want, but in the end, it's just that ... text, pure and simple.

Besides, there are some significant issues with color blindness across different segments of society, so you need to be aware when you make something impossible to read.

For all the things I attempt, I stick to the basics:
- italics for emphasis
- bolding for headers
- indenting to signify something is distinct from the rest of the story

I rarely screw with covers, other than on covers where I try to blend the font colors to match the rest of the cover. But when I use the same font in the story, I stick to either straight black, or white with a black outline.

Even for people who aren't color blind, certain low contrast combinations of background color and font color can make text impossible to read.

There are separate pages for New Stories, Serial Updates, Blogs and Reviews so readers don't have to scroll down the Home Page past entry types that don't interest them.

not needed, and it will only delay the site work Lazeez already has to do. All those options have their own page you can view only them on.

When I introduced the current home page design, initially, I introduced it with colour coding for types of entries. The colours were subdued, not garish at all.

Then the complaints started. Strangely, the most common complaint (after the 'why change it if it's not broken) was the colour coding. Many site users mentioned that it's caused information overload. So I switched to uniform grey headers and just left the word to identify each type.

Thanks for the feedback Lazeez. I guess I must be an oddball then :)
Keep up the good work.
