Author's Stories not in Alphabetical Order

prettz007 ๐Ÿšซ

I'm sure this is something I did and can't figure out how to undo.

When I go to an Author's page to see their stories they will not be in alphabetical order. The 10 stories displayed on the page will be in order but if the author has enough stories to have multiple pages stories that should be on that page often show up on later pages.

I think its almost sorting by some other way for the entire list and then for the individual pages by alphabetical order but I'm not sure what that order is.

If you have a premier membership: Hover your cursor over the word "Title" at the top of the heading (top of the column that contains the names of the stories. It should appear to be the same as a "link". Just click it to re-arrange the sort order. This also applies to the other columns also.It is a very neat way to sort stories in the manner that you may like - like last updated, or oldest, or by size.

Cool! I hadn't experimented with it here, so hadn't noticed. I've done that at other sites in the past.

I am not Premier reader but I find some author's stories are in alphabetical order throughout and others seem to be in random order (perhaps in order of age but I haven't checked). Is this perhaps due to some switch which authors use or don't notice?

An author can order the way the stories are displayed on his story list site - the two main ones are by date of posting, and by alphabetical. I suspect the default setting is by date of posting and the author has to set it to be alphabetical - I know I had to do that when I merged all my pen names together.

You've got that backwards, as the default (as near as I can recall), is by date. I went in and reordered each of my displays, on all three systems, to keep my series together and in order. You can also physically shuffle them, so they show up in whichever order you want, moving each up or down in the list. It's handy, but borders on 'too much flexibility for our own good', as it's more likely to confuse readers looking for the newest stories and who are uninterested in the older stories they've already read.

looking more into it it does look like its only some authors and not all so I'm guessing its the Author sorting.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

I'm guessing that, like me, many authors prefer keeping stories in series order, rather than alphabetical or date order. Even with date order, I'd prefer showing the most recent first, as opposed to the first story to the last posted.

But then, that tends to only affect those of us anal-retentive types. 'D
