Change to SciFi Stories

awnlee jawking ๐Ÿšซ

I just hopped over to SciFi Stories and for the first time I encountered the double click to read the rest of the text on a story I'd never had to do that on before.

Is that a deliberate change? Has it been applied to FineStories too? So far I haven't encountered it on SOL.

@awnlee jawking

I transferred all three sites to a unified membership system, and there are no more free premier services on Scifistories.com nor Finestories.com. One paid membership covers all three sites.

Premier author membership is not transferable to other sites due to certain limitations. Authors get premier service at the sites they earned them on.

I may fix those limitations at some point, we'll see.

Currently too busy building the other site now that the new payment system is in place and SOL, SFS, FS and Bookapy are using it.

Thanks.

I might just have to write some sci fi stories!

ETA: Bugger, I've just realised that means advanced search facilities have gone too :-(

There's a good chance he's referencing the patreon style support site that has been mentioned before. That's my guess.

@awnlee jawking

I have a follow-up question.

The author agreement on SFS says:
"SciFi-Stories has general disclaimer and copyright notice that covers all the site's contents including what works you may post on the site."

I'm too stupid to find a definition of what constitutes acceptable contents. Obviously Science Fiction stories are okay, but what about Fantasy and variants of Paranormal? The tags allow for fantasy elements such as Zombies, Werewolves, Vampires, Dragons, Unicorns, Elves etc, but not Witches and Wizards etc.

note points 7, 8, 11, and 18.

I read the agreement - I even quoted from it. But nowhere does it define what sort of stories are acceptable.

I should add a clause about scifi or fantasy only.

ETA: I did.

I should add a clause about scifi or fantasy only.

I know I'm being obtuse but I feel that would be helpful.

I notice the 'search by genre' facility allows 'Science Fiction', 'Time Travel' and 'Stories without genre'.

AJ

Lazeez Jiddan (Webmaster)

and 'Stories without genre'.

That's a remnant from when genres weren't mandatory.

I just read the SFS agreement. Did you take out the requirement for 2 years minimum that the stories will be unremovable? I did not find it and if so, I might have to start posting stories there again.

@CB

Did you take out the requirement for 2 years minimum that the stories will be unremovable?

I suspect you've confused the rules as the only place I remember ever seeing a 2 year story stay requirement on the WLPC sites is for the contest entries where the story has to stay on the free site for 2 years after the contest closes.

note points 7, 8, 11, and 18.

As far as I can see, there is no point 18. The highest point is 15.

The page has been modified since I posted the earlier reply and I see the points I was referencing are now sub-points of point 6.

I transferred all three sites to a unified membership system

I got an email this morning, subject

SciFi-Stories first notice of pending account termination

so it seems the membership system is not completely unified, as I am a frequent SOL user, but a very infrequent SciFiStories user.

Ian

ETA I logged in to SciFiStories to make sure I didn't lose my account.

I got the same emails- one for Finestories & one for Scifi Stories- frequently here at SOL, very infrequently at Finestories & SciFi Stories.

Although the links & headers look legit, i went to the sites directly.

Sender looks legit and if I inspect message source

Authentication-Results: spf=pass (sender IP is 205.201.136.5)

smtp.mailfrom=mandrillapp.com; dkim=pass (signature was verified)

header.d=worldliteraturecompany.com;dmarc=pass action=none

header.from=worldliteraturecompany.com;compauth=pass reason=100

that looks legit also

The emails are legit.

Each site maintains its own last log in date in the database and sends those notices separately.

So, in spite of the unified membership system, my account at SciFiStories can get cancelled while my account at SOL and my account at FineStories remain valid ?

If that happens, are there any problems getting a new account for SciFiStories using my same email again ?

Unified membership refers to premier level. If you have premier level membership, you shouldn't get those notifications.

The log in record has been unified for few years now and practically never deleted. When you click a link to another site from SOL, to Finestories for example, the local database entry is recreated on finestories if it's missing. You won't see anything amiss.

What gets deleted after such a notice is data like followed authors list. So if you go back to finestories after your local account on finestories gets deleted, you won't find any data (preferences, followed authors, etc...) but you will be able to log in as if nothing changed.

The premier level you are referring to here is the paid version of the premier level, not the 'author premier' version correct?

Yes. For the foreseeable future, author premier service is tied to the site it's earned on.

Paid memberships include all the sites that use SOL's stories software engine.
