Price of cars in Australia

Dralie ๐Ÿšซ

Could anybody please have any information on how much a BMW Alpina B 11 cost to purchase in 1992 in Australia?

Thank you for any input.

@Dralie

I just did a quick search for the price of CURRENT models of BMWs here in the US, and then for the same model in Melbourne, Australia. They came up as being almost the same price. I DONT think the AUSTRALIAN listing was in USD. I THINK it was in AUD, which is a 1:1.5 ratio. So, that means that a BMW in Australia would seem to be sold for about 2/3 what we would pay here.

Your mileage may vary.

The OP is asking what a particular make/model cost in 1992, not today.

Yes, I know. I was just seeing if US and AUS prices were consistent.

I can't find anything other than present 2nd hand prices, the closest i could find was for a 1992 740iL Saloon.

In 2017 at a Shannon's auction one sold for $4,500.
The list price for that model back in 1992 was $167,500.
For comparison, in 1990 the average house price in Sydney was 184,600.

In the UK you can get used car price guides that include the prices when new for comparison. There might be equivalent publications in Oz.

According to this article in 'Financial Review' dated May 12, 2020 it appears the Alpina modified BMW was not available in Australia before 2020.
I would not call this definitive evidence though. To get that you may have to contact Alpina.
The article does list a 2020 price.

Good luck with your research.

This article from 2016 talks about Alpine coming to Australia. No pricing info but it does indicate that Alpine wasn't available in Australia until 2016/2017.
Of course it was always possible to import one yourself.

This article indicates that the 1992 Alpina was based on the BMW 325i and there were only about 220 produced.

This article said the BMW 325i base price was about $30,000.

This article may indicate that the Alpina mod cost about double the base BMW price but that's a WAG cause Ich spreche kein Deutsch without google translate.

The OP asked about the B11 which was based on the E32 735i according to Wikipedia

At least I got the Alpina part right.

Thank you for your replies. I needed a specific car for my story and invented a price. It seems that 50K is not too far from its range.
