story on the tip of my tongue, but cant remember the name

its a series of stories/books fantasy world-guy discovers village/valley of elven women. helps them out against humans and orcs. to help them more he goes to school/acadamy. lives in mansion/boarding house, works for a lady crininal/smuggler. burns school library......
